Timothée Chalamet, who’d just arrived at Manhattan’s Washington Square Park with a bodyguard in tow, parts the hundreds-deep crowd gathered beneath the square’s famous Roman arch; as he removes his surgical-mask disguise, adrenalized screams erupt in his wake. The mustachioed actor throws his arm around Spencer DeLorenzo, 22, whose hazel eyes, angular bone structure, and brown chin-length waves brought him here today; just a few minutes earlier, DeLorenzo had emerged as an early fan favorite, riding through the throng on his friend’s shoulders to shouts of “The people’s princess!”
In other words, Greenwich Village’s very own Lisan al-Gaib.
But when DeLorenzo reflects on the surreal moment later, he tells me he’d assumed at first that this guy—the actual Timothée Chalamet—was just another Timmy lookalike. Truthfully, it took all of us a second to realize what the hell was actually going on.
