My father used to say to me "son you do every job to the best of your ability regardless of whether or not you're getting paid, because the next well paid job will come from the job you do for free"

Thanks for this video.
I’m out in Africa, a late starter at 55 in the world of documentary filmmaking. Your help with my Canon C200, and your advice in general has been a huge help to me.
Please keep em coming, see you on the Materclass!

1:42-1:48 I hope this wont make me look like I was born yesterday or something, but what is that in your hand and what is it used for?

@rubidium... Is the canon masterclass the same as the c500 camera masterclass?? Because I already have that. or is there more to it?

I've been watching your videos for a while now and I was 100% sure I was subbed (my bad XD). You provide such great content and are very helpful. Thank you much for all of what you are giving ! Have a great day

I hope this wont be taken like some sort of flirting or anything, but I just want to say this. Your voice sounds comforting, like some awesome, creamy porridge or something.

Does it help if I read all the filmmaking books I can get, make homemade videos, and hopefully get noticed?

Moving to NYC or LA right now is a great idea. You'll be the only one there because everyone is leaving so rent shouldn't be an issue. Kidding. I lived in NYC most of my life. Best day was finally getting out. BUT after a long career as an Art Director/Creative Director. Business is everywhere. I think you can learn online and by just getting after it. Doing, is the best teacher. Mistakes are the best lessons. Hopefully you only do them once.

So true about the doing BTS. That's what I started doing and that lead to some really fun music videos for a few labels. Still shooting weddings of course because that's the real money make for me but there are some really cool things going on that I am looking forward to. Been making the trek down to LA for some jobs. So fun.

I don't think I would ever work for less than my current day-rate. A race to the bottom means it is easy to get exploited. I also think that rather than buying gear rental is a better option. No need to invest in a "master class" if you can learn a camera for free via YouTube and rental. just my two cents.

Don't ask yourself, "What can they do for me?" but rather ask yourself, "What can I do for them?"
