A new M4 13" iPad Pro with 16G of RAM and a 1T storage comes to the same price as a Macbook Pro M3 with16G of RAM and a 1T SSD. The Macbook is just as portable, has more ports and you can actually OWN Logic instead of renting it... Just saying...

Good point. I have an M2 iPad 2022 and it delivers everything with extremely low latency. I can actually use Bluetooth keyboards (Korg MicroAir 61) without missing a beat. That iPad and the newer ones are great for intense gaming etc. it’s already overkill for music
Edit: and say nothing of the compatibility issues which may crop up. Those poor developers

I think your recommendation is spot on. M1 Pros are frequently available at discount or available 2nd hand / refurb and are more than up to the task in 2024. And hopefully a little less painful on the wallet, especially if you want all the accessories which have all been replaced with new versions! Thanks for the concise and to the point video (as always)!

If youre going to plug in an audio interface, make sure your audio interface has a serperate plug for phantom power or it wont work

Finally ready to upgrade my old 2015 iPad Pro 12.9! The 13" Air is looking like a win for me, don't need all the crazy features and also no way in hell I'm looking to spend £1300!

My iPad pro from 2021 runs fine in general but it bothers me I can crash AUM by combining cpu hogs like SynthMaster2, Moog Model 15 and Pure Synth - is it true that having 30 GB free space can affect performance?

I make my music on an iPad 10th Gen, and it feels like I'm fighting my device. I have enough money to shell out on the m3 MacBook air. I'm sold because of the included Dolby Atmos mixing, although I feel that Logic for iPad is still as good.

I bought an iPad Pro 11” 256GB M2 earlier this year and not a single app I use is pushing the M2 to its limits (Affinity apps, Octane X, NomadSculpt, Cleo3D, Cubasis 3, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Logic Pro and some impressive 3D games). The M2 iPad Pro is already overpowered. With the Logic Pro benchmark from Music Prod, I can run 66 (!!) tracks. Great 👍 video.

I think it's all pretty cool, but I do wonder if tech is running far ahead of what anyone really needs. Great rundown Patrick.

bought the iPad Air (used to have a laptop) and trying to get back into using garageband and maybe upgrade to Logic2. For the life of me cannot fine a good answer as to how to avoid latency while recording audio tracks. where using an Audio interface or going direct with a mic into the iPad, there is no where for a hardwired headphone input/output. I tried my Bluetooth earbuds and that is a disaster. Any advise?

I’ve noticed a weird bug in GarageBand and I’m curious if this is something that’s known or perhaps there’s a fix. It seems to only occur with a bass track. When I press play, the bass track doesn’t kick in until 2 bars late. Hard to explain, but basically all other tracks play when they’re supposed to but the bass track doesn’t play until it’s about 2 bars in.

I just wish there were better midi drums. Along the lines of GGD or EZdrummer. These ipads have been more than capable of handling them for a few years now. It's the only thing really stopping me from pulling the trigger on getting one.

I love my thick iPad Pro and it’s nice thick case. I know when I’m holding it. I had no idea I wanted a paper thin model.

QUESTION: I have a 2 years old iPad Air and a Scarlett interface which I connect using a camera adapter. I use Garage Band to record my music. It works well unless I have to use a condenser microphone. In that case the 48V phantom power of the Scarlett doesn't work. Is there a way to make it work? Is there a device for a small price that I can buy to make it work? Thanks for your replies.

I’ll be interested to see how many concurrent instances of Mariana my new M4 iPad will be able to handle. 😀 With AUM still not supporting multicore, it may not be much more than before. But I’m expecting I’ll get more with Logic. I’d agree that the M4 is probably overkill for most iPad musicians, but since my iPad is my primary computing device, I felt it was worth going for the top-of-the-line.

I’ve got a 2020 iPad which I bought ONE WEEK before they announced the M1 model. I would get nearly £400 in trade in for said iPad if I do go for it.
