As awesome as Prickly Pears are, the Australian government considers them an invasive species. You cannot legally grow them because they do a bit too well here. I used to see a lot of them growing up and have had the pleasure of eating the fruit after negotiating the thorns. Very sweet and used in a folk remedy for Hooping Cough.
