🎥 Real Madrid vs. Barcelona [0-1] - Match Review (Copa Del Rey 2023 [Sem-Finals, 1st Leg])

Barcelona beat Real Madrid for the second time in a row this season by one goal to nil at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Copa Del Rey. A Franck Kessie shot that goes in off Eder Militao in the first half gave the blaugrana in the lead in the cup tie. It was a defensive masterclass from every single player on the pitch tonight. Particularly Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong putting on a stunning display. Marcos Alonso was very influential in this match after his surprise start due to Andreas Christensen's injury in training yesterday. Xavi deployed the line up we all expected but set them up to defend for the majority of the game with key players missing through injury. Overall the result will raise the confidence and mentality of the players as we go into tough matches before the international break, but the job in this tie isn't done yet.

What I saw from this match

Ronald Aruojo is the best defensive player in the world 🤌🤌

Alonso played well for once today, and Kounde finally remembered his a world class defender

Kessie has been brilliant ever since his recieved minutes his not Pedri but he brings something different, he deserves his spot in our lineup and plays very well with De Jong

Frenkie was world class today he was everywhere and him and Kessie have a really good understanding building.


Ferran should be given that Right wing over Raphinha while Dembele is unnavailable, Raphinha seems low on confidence. He struggled to take on Nacho of all players.. we know what Dembele does to Nacho

After the Almeria loss, I said I had no business watching this team again, but they survived today. Kudos to the defense & midfield today. But why does Fati keep blocking balls that are clear for others to score? Does it a lot again Lewi and now against kessie. So Raphinah couldn't score in the absence of Lewi, yet he won't give him the ball when he's around. Barca attackers should know that Lewi is the only striker in this team and should feed him balls. They're yet to convince me though. Xavi still doesn't know when to bring in the youngsters.

Arajuo is beast no one can break his mentality, passion, aggressive, commitment, he will fill Puyols boots.

Forwards should dribble, assist and leave the fear of opponents.

Busquets, Alonso are very slow and we need proper energetic Midfielder and defender to replace them.

We need to dominate the Person and to press more in second leg hope all injured players will return to home.

No way you give Gavi and Ferran a 6 and Busi a 7? Gavi's pressing is one of the major ways we were able to play this style. Gavi's really not a forward. His offensive presence is really overstated. But he is key for our defense and our press and occasionally he can give you some quality near the box, but he's not Pedri.

Torres made more beneficial plays than any of our actual forwards. He made a couple really good runs and a couple good passes and two balls that shouldve been assists. He's not perfect but at least he was trying to be dangerous and actually played some effective balls.

Raphina is not a high 5. He's not great 1 v 1. He loses the ball constantly. He had essentially the same impact as Vini except Vini had a world class defender shadowing him and Raphina did not. On the other hand, Raphina's energy and willingness and acumen in pressing was necessary for this victory.

No idea what's wrong with his confidence, but he's sooo hot or cold. He's rarely ever going to be a Dembele, where he's capable to consistently create danger by himself, but he is really good around the box and making runs, and occasionally he gone go around folks. If anything, we just need him to retain possession some times.

Also think MATS was a 9. Some of his best preventive goal keeping in a while, he looked confident attacking the ball out of his box and defending corners/crosses.

We played with no attackers, good job Xavi, great game plan this time when you dont have the start11 players injerd like Pedri Lewandowski and Dembele our only good attackers was only Raphinha but he was just ok not so good bcoz he didint have eny ader attacking player so cud help him, thats normalt, btw even Busqets wasent 100% recoverd from hes old injery problem but the boys did it with perfect plan B or C this time. Our defence was the nightmair for Madrid.

De Jong was killer. Busquets and Kessie too. Ferran was clinical with his forward pass at least. Gavi needs to work on his timing with final passes
