I grew up on Hand Ave a block away from Kona. Mike sold me my first board around 1983 or so. A great memory of Mike was at Poverty Beach. I was surfing in really cold water without gloves and booties. I wasn't able to unzip my suit because my hands were numb. He recognized me, helped me get my suit off and told me to come into the shop the next day to hook me up with booties and gloves. He was just helping a kid who was stoked on surfing. Congratulations, Mike!
