AMD Changes It's GPU Strategy - Will It Work?

According to Jack Huynh (AMD's Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Computing and Graphics Business Group), AMD will be shifting it's focus away from high-end enthusiast GPUs to focus more closely on the fat middle of the GPU market.

Will the strategy work, or will ceding the flagship GPU space to Nvidia prove to be a huge mistake? What do you think?

When Ryzen released, it wasn't the flagship products that enticed consumers imo.
Majorly undercutting intel on price to performance accounted for much more of the momentum.
They need to do a lot better than this generation. In my country the 60 and 70 tier cards are maybe 15% cheaper. When the more reputable brand's cost is half a day's wages, it's no wonder they're struggling.

8700 XT & 8800 XT will be very important products for AMD. Hopefully, they can deliver quality at an affordable price.

When you dont have visionaries in your company this is how it declines.

As an owner of a 5700xt I could care less about the halo effect or a 1500 dollar GPU. 500-700 dollars is where my budget is. Really, all I care about is the benchmarks in that range. I may not be representative, but bang for the buck is what rules for me. I am gonna hold off till November now and see if they release something, like the rumors are hinting at.

I think this is a bad strategy as you said about the Halo effect.
Nvidia didnt become the king of GPU making average joes card. They gained the respect and trust of the gamers worldwide making the best GPU.
AMD probably cant beat upcoming 5090 with RDNA 4 hence they cowered to the “scaling” strategy. That is just engineering failure at AMD. Thats what I think
