Pulmonary (respiratory) Assessment

In this video, Cody will perform a respiratory assessment.

Assessment Criteria:

Pulmonary Assessment

1. Positions client in sitting position if possible
2. Assesses respirations by counting the respiratory rate and observing the rhythm, depth, respiratory effort, and symmetry of chest movement.
3. Auscultate the chest.
a. Listens over 6 fields, directly on the skin, posteriorly, using the diaphragm of the stethoscope.
b. Auscultates over intercostal spaces rather than over bones.
c. Compares right side with left side.
d. Have client take slow, deep breaths through their MOUTH while listening at each field through one full respiratory cycle.
4. Auscultate before and after pulmonary care provided.
