In hs my teachers way was to yell "if you can hear me once clap once" and if only abit of students heard she'll do it again "clap 2 times if you can hear me and by then all the students are listening because people clapped.

Our school uses the (school mascot) five. You hold up your hand and announce (name of school mascot) 5. Then you start counting down, 4…3…2….1. When I get to one of ANYONE is still talking I loudly announce in a VERY stern voice “that means you stop talking”. That usually does it. Basically I tell them to shut up without saying those words. 😂
