20 people out of an estimated 550 people in 90 houses in an approximate 20-square-mile (52-square-kilometer) area, mathematically about 4% of the population. Deaths as a % of the population in WWII was 3.26%. Assuming 1 death per household would have it as 22% of the households, or 1 in 4 or 5 homes. And the Salem deaths were all people known to the community.
General discontent, frustration, and envy lashing out, with deadly effect and doing nothing to change the causes.
