We stand by our decision to uphold Yiheng Wang’s 0.78 average as one that was made with the best intentions to preserve the integrity of speedcubing in a systematic and robust way, by addressing the processes of the WCA and not applying ad-hoc “fixes” in a way that may be appear to be targeted, arbitrary, or otherwise inconsistent. We take the consistent application of the Regulations extremely seriously, and it has been our number one priority throughout this entire process. We knew that this decision would have downsides, but it is clear to us now that the downsides were not appropriately balanced. The Board will be reflecting on this situation and taking into consideration changes that we can make to avoid such blind spots in the future.
