You really should be proud of that workbench. Beautiful wood and beautiful craftsmanship.

When MI got hit like half of all of our trees died. Made up a huge portion of the trees where I am.

I hate when stuff like this happens but silver lining, I learned how to do a ton of stuff because I had a ton of ash laying around. Rehandling things, making hammers, hand planes, etc

Now it's the elms, made a ton of hollowforms, it doesn't like going quite as thin on the end grain tho. Once you get to like 1/8" chunks just start popping out. The chip out looks kinda cool on the spheres I was doing but my goals at the time were to go even thinner and lighter. I love handing them to people and see them realize it is wayy lighter than they were expecting.

Beautiful workbench! And there's something special about being able to take a project all the way from tree to finished piece.

I hope you have time to do more woodworking videos as you get time, I have really enjoyed the ones you have shared so far. :)

Ash Borers killed nearly every Ash tree on my property and all of my neighbors. While we do have many other tree species, some of my Ash trees were in places that held special meaning to me, and now they are all dead. I hope this doesn't happen out west. It's truly sad.

I saw plenty of F. uhdei in Phoenix when I lived there, but none as big as that! I’ll bet extreme heat or soil conditions can be somewhat limiting to their mature size?

Great work on the job, but that ash milled up thick like that is REALLY NICE ! Ash wood to me is kinda in between oak and maple . Qualities of both . Oak lite .👈🏻😄We throw away such nice stuff down here

Here in Minnesota it came quick. Hopefully we can bring these species back from extinction a few decades from now :(

Even with ash trees being hit hard in the east, it's hard to tell anything is missing in the woods because of all the other trees fill in so well, you still will notice all the standing dead ones when leaves are out

I've only seen maybe a half dozen living in Indiana in the last 10 years. Half of those were treated.

Ash in Kentucky is going extinct. Most white ash trees here are standing dead now, if not already fallen. Oddly, this past week, I cut up a 30" ash log for firewood that my neighbor cut this past spring, and I hated seeing that tree go down. Lots of great firewood, but not any damage from EAB. That tree was healthy. All big ash trees on my property have died. There are a number of small ones around our pond, but their days are numbered.

Trees serve us even after they die, like Jesus, who was also a carpenter.
