I know Gerard’s speech about suicide is important but the “John cheese (?)” made me giggle

My mom got me this album as a gift in like 6th grade. Hot Topic employees had told her about the band and she thought I'd like them, she was correct ☺️

This album gets no love, they even licensed the new merch to a much cheaper company then the other ones, still hasn’t been reissued on CD after 2002 release

Unpopular opinion but this is the best MCR release imo, even over Black Parade. Mostly because it is the most emo of all the MCR albums. It definitely takes influence from old school emocore bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace

"Honey, This Mirror [...]" is still my go-to reference track for bombastic eyeliner mallcore. Gerard's vocal style really is something else.

Drowning Lessons and Cubicles always hit me with serious emotion. I loved this record in 8th grade during my serious emo phase, & is still holds up.

This era is really what really inspired me and my friends to try and make music together. Seeing them so young and dorky made them feel so much more relatable and made it easier for us to imagine ourselves in that situation.

An underrated and under-explored era, considering how much it informed what came later for the band. 'Headfirst for Halos' has remained a fave, even if I'm less of a rabid MCR fan than I once was.
Also, they toured with A7X during this time and verrry early on in the Revenge era, and that still tickles the hell out of my brain. People forget how closely those two acts once associated!

drowning lessons is one of mcr’s most emotional, uniquely written, and coolest sounding songs tbh. the main guitar riff is so unique and difficult to play, and it has a such a playfully dark cadence, which almost makes the song sound happy. the bass is also so dark and bouncy, allowing it to cut through the higher end guitar riffs. the vocals sound so raw and emotional without requiring and screams or distorted vocal technique. and that outro too, it sounds like the end screen in a perma death survival horror game on the god damn playstation 2

you should definitely make a video about danger days era. i think its really interesting about how their whole look and sound changed and how the music industry changed between the black parade and danger days.

It's turning 20 years old in summer, a remaster could be much appreciated

I'm really happy to hear someone talk about how Frank and Ray being in the band really helped create the sound... I feel like a lot of mychem fans like all the members but don't actually view every single member as artistic. A lot of people kind of just right off Gerard as the only musical genius. sidenote I know Brian is treated like Voldemort but I firmly believe danger days would have a much better album if he was still in the band. it saddens me that he didn't join another band. insanely talented. Also if given the chance I firmly believe ray toro could pull a Dave from nirvana and have success like the foo fighters if he had the confidence in himself and put the right band together.

for anyone interested in diving into the history of mcr i highly recommend the band biography "the true lives of my chemical romance". just read it couple months ago and its an amazingly detailed look at the band from before its inception to the breakup in 2013.

Bullets is such an amazing album. I'm lucky to have a copy of it, as well as one of the original shirts Eyeball Records released for it.

Would love if this could be a short series on MCR leading up to their reunion and tour this year.
