The File on Thelma Jordon is a 1950 film noir directed by Robert Siodmak from a screenplay by Ketti Frings. It stars Barbara Stanwyck and Wendell Corey.

Time Out film guide noted, "A fine film noir which works an ingenious, intricate variation on the situation in Double Indemnity, but which takes its tone, unlike Wilder's film, not from Stanwyck's glittering siren who courts her own comeuppance ("Judgement day, Jordon!"), but from the nondescript assistant DA she drives to the brink of destruction."

PLOT
Cleve Marshall (Wendell Corey) is an assistant district attorney who falls for the shadowy Thelma Jordon (Barbara Stanwyck). With her sordid past -- and her relationship with thief Tony Laredo (Richard Rober) -- kept secret from the married attorney, Jordon seduces the easily swayed Marshall, and uses him to cover up her misdeeds. When Jordon becomes the prime suspect for the murder of her wealthy aunt, she turns to Marshall, who goes to great lengths to clear her name.

CAST
Barbara Stanwyck as Thelma Jordon
Wendell Corey as Cleve Marshall
Paul Kelly as Miles Scott
Joan Tetzel as Pamela Marshall
Stanley Ridges as Kingsley Willis
Richard Rober as Tony Laredo
Gertrude W. Hoffmann as Aunt Vera Edwards

It's unfortunate that Hollywood stopped writing and producing films of this nature. Thanks for showing people what real movies were and why they're now called "Classics"!👌👌👌

Thanks for making this one available. Very interesting change of pace for Robert Siodmak, the director. Splendid work by Barbara Stanwyck, as always.

wonderful moment at 15:18. a brilliant example of how drunk driving was completely ok in the old days. the ADA has consumed over 1 litre of hard liquor within 3 hours, and is falling down drunk, and the nice upper class lady tells him he must drive home right away. "you'll be allright then, drive home to whoever is waiting for you". "drive carefully". I love it. Just how it really was too. in the 1950s, my grandfather used to drive home so drunk from the bar that the policeman had to follow him in the patrol car to make sure he made it. The policeman was Irish of course because all policemen were Irish, and happened to drink at the same bar.

Wendell Corey was a great actor and had great chemistry with Stanwyck. For some idiots in the commentary who don't get it, check them out together "The Furies" 1950. Excellent noir!

Thank you for postng this great Noir, and a great copy, to boot. The actress that plays Cleve's secretary played Farley Granger's cheating wife Miriam in Strangers on a Train.

Film noir can sometimes be classified as a story where stupid people make stupid decisions. This movie, despite the great iconic presence of Barbara Stanwyck, fits that bill.

May not be necessarily "riveting"; however, definitely kept my interest up to the very end...even thought I knew what the outcome would be😊😉
