Tasting THE BARN’s Speciality Instant Coffee

We got a first chance to taste speciality instant coffee. It was made in the partnership between Voila (USA) and THE BARN Coffee Roasters (Berlin, Germany). We got very surprised by what we tasted!

I have tried Sudden coffee and I should honestly say that I am not very impressed, but when you are out fishing and you do not want to bring an aeropress etc. it is very good. I have baked with it too and for that it is absolutely incredible.

My local roaster recently started stocking their own sourced instant coffee from Columbia. While not anywhere near the pricing of that brand, it definitely showed promise in speciality instant.

A very informative video on specialty instant coffee guys. I guess instant coffee would eventually make a foray into specialty coffee but many people enjoy the process of hand-brewed coffee more than even the taste. It's a ritual. So depending on what you want I guess this still doesn't make sense to many people, especially because of the price!

I love that instant coffee is getting a level up by bringing specialty coffee involved in it. However, that cup price comparison is debatable. it wasn't considered in the hand brewed cup all the equipment used. How much was the brewer, the kettle, the grinder, the filters, the scale. You need to brew a ton of cups to justify dividing the cost of the equipment for each cup.

The fact you save 5 minutes with the instant is not a plus in my opinion. I enjoy the process of making coffee.

Why instant coffee don't need any filtration and grinded coffee from coffee need filtration?

70 degree C? oh wow. I drink my coffee at 50 degree. I feel 70 degree will be way too hot, I have too much bitterness in the cup, the nice fruity aroma will only come out at lower temps in my experience. What is your experience?

This will be very useful when traveling or on an airplane or something. Sure you can do Aeropress but lets be honest, it's not nearly as practical as this 😅️But they *have to* get the price down. At €2 I might consider it for infrequent use, at €1 I would find a thousand uses for it. But at €3.5? 😂️Yeah, no.

You could have passed the instant coffee through a filter to get an accurate comparison. Now you're comparing one with all oils intact and one without.
