I wish these were around when I worked an overnight customer service position. What I ended doing instead was getting an oscillating fan and a wired mouse and clipping the mouse wire to the fan. It would gently pull the mouse from left to right and keep my screen from idling out if I fell asleep waiting for an incoming customer inquiry.

I've heard you can just cutout a circle of construction paper or thick paper the same size of the moving pad and it will then work for large mice.

I used vlc media player to loop a video playing minimized (no sound). Doesn't matter what video, but it should probably be plausibly work-related. At least at my workplace, the screen wouldn't time out if you were "watching" a video, even if it was playing minimized and without sound. Couldn't pause it, or the screen would time out again if paused long enough, but didn't need to--I just left it running in the background all day.

If I needed to watch another video, I had vlc set to allow multiple video screens to play back, so it worked just fine to set and forget the minimized one.

The main pain is having to start up and set up the looping video playback each time I logged in, but it was entirely non-intrusive and free to run it all day after that.

Probably works fine with other media players, like the stock Windows Media Player (which would have the advantage of being available on most corporate desktops), but you might not be able to play other videos while your "screen-timeout-foiling" video is running. Just play your other video and remember to put back the screen-timeout-foiling video after you watch (and probably after it times out on you once to remind you).

If you're working from home and are being tracked, this is better than installing software, or using a dongle, which may get you in trouble with your IT director.

Awesome - never knew this was available. I guess the money spent is worth avoiding potential issues.

For most not a necessity. But sure is a convinience that you don't have to type your long complex password just because you've gone to bathroom, grab a cup of coffee or having lunch.
Yes fingerprint sensor for quick login would have been nice if not the d... as... IT department haven't disabled it because they think it's more secure (while in reality you give a person who want to know your password a lot more chances - either by camera or by USB key logger).

isnt it not moving since its not an optic mouse like the small one?

The tiny USB type that looks like a Bluetooth adapter are more discreet and super cheap. Make sure to get one they has an on/off function.

Can someone explain why one can't simply change the settings to not let the PC go to Sleep?

Why can't you just adjust the settings to keep your screen on at all time?

Don’t workplaces have computer screen monitoring now? If this stuff is so mainstream ? So they can see who’s actually working ect?

I think everybody forgot. There's actually a setting to turn sleep hibernation or shut down off when idle. It literally takes 15 seconds to set up in Windows. I came across these devices on Amazon when I was searching for something else and I had no idea what they were for. This seems like a product that is solving a problem that doesn't exist.

I still can get what for do someone need this!
you can easily go to control panel in Windows and block your PC/Laptop/Monitor from going idle.
