SACRAMENTO, Calif. —‌ The Boston Celtics may have shown the Sacramento Kings that they probably should just concentrate on deep runs in the NBA playoffs and leave the ‘going from good to great’ philosophy on the shelf for a later date.🍀

The Celtics used every statistical category on the offensive end to quash the Kings 144-119 at Golden 1 Center on Dec. 20, ending a four-game winning streak at home. Five Celtics players scored 20 or more points in the contest and they did it after losing a tough 132-126 overtime game to the Golden State Warriors on Dec. 19.🍀

Kings head coach Mike Brown indirectly admitted that he was soundly outcoached by Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.🍀

“It was good old fashioned butt kicking. Give the Celtics a lot of credit. Especially coming off of a back-to-back. They for sure didn’t look like the team that was waiting on us here,” Brown said. “The 18 second-chance points, the 30 fastbreak points…that’s crazy. In (shooting) 55% from the floor, 52% from the three-point line and (finishing with) 144 points? Give them a lot of credit. Joe Mazzulla kicked my behind and now all I can do now is take my hat off to him,” Brown said in defeat.🍀

Derrick White had 28 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocked shots, and made 6 of 9 shots in 3-point territory for the Celtics (21-6) while Jaylen Brown finished with 28 points, 5 rebounds, and six assists.🍀

Kristap Porzingis added 24 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 6 blocked shots and Jrue Holiday scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out 10 dimes for the Cs. Payton Pritchard had 20 points in a reserve role. The Celtics as a team made 22 of 42 beyond the arc, 20 of 24 at the free-throw line, and 51 of 92 shots from the field.🍀

In the first quarter, Boston made 8 of 12 shots beyond the arc while the Kings made 11 of 21 3-pointers in the first 12 minutes. The Celtics led 41 to 38 to start the second quarter but the Kings could not keep up. Boston outscored the Kings 36-25 in the second quarter, 39-24 in the third, and 31-29 in the final frame.🍀

“I just liked our poise and our perspective. I thought even in the first quarter a lot of the stuff they hit we were willing to at least withstand for a little while,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzula said. “Some of them I thought were just tough shots. Some of them were according to the game plan. It was a matter of just keeping our perspective. We did a great job of just staying with it.”

De’Aaron Fox had 29 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, three steals, and made 6 of 8 shots from behind the 3-point line in 26 minutes. Fox made 5 3 pointers in the first quarter. Domantas Sabonis had 13 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 1 blocked shot. Keegan Murray had 13 points for the Kings (16-10).🍀

For this particular loss, Boston set season highs for a Kings opponent in points, 3-point field goal percentage, field goals made (51), 3-pointers made (22), blocks (10) and fast break points (30). Brown felt like to the referees missed a few calls.🍀

“To start with me, I gotta do a better job because you try to complain to officials but they are human. They make mistakes and it aint gonna change,” Brown said. “And I think the more you complain, and they are human, they are gonna try to call things against you.”

Boston was without Jayson Tatum who was sidelined with a left ankle sprain. Al Horford was out for rest.🍀

The Kings play the Phoenix Suns (20-6) on Dec. 22 and the Minnesota Timberwolves (14-13) on Dec. 23 at G1C.🍀
