What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of Northamptonshire? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.

As a disclaimer, this list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.

Alex, your videos are great. Lots of information on a lot of towns in a compact format. Provides so much details without the fluff others add to their videos. I look forward to these videos and appreciate you putting these together.

Excellent stuff Alex. It's getting to the point now where Rushden, Higham ferrers, Irchester and Irthlingborough are in urgent need of a shared station and they have been talking about putting one back at Irchester for several years.

Thank you, I'm not far away but have never visited most of these towns. I do agree with your number one, I've been to Oundle and it's lovely. Free parking too!

I haven't commented until now, but I've watched all of your videos and find them completely interesting and absolutely marvellous. Your voice goes really well for the videos and is very clear and was wondering where is your accent from? I love travelling and exploring and your videos are champion of this and no one else comes close for it. I like Northamptonshire and find every town in this marvellous county interesting to visit and is one of the better counties in the country and the architecture arguably the best in the country. Northampton, Wellingborough and Irthlingborough must have came close for consideration, Northampton has some marvellous buildings, Irthlingborough is a nice little town and I've not been to Wellingborough, but I hear it's very nice.

Great video Alex, that’s a shocking statistic about the lack of rail connections in Northamptonshire.

Great video! Thank you! I live in the county and it's good to see some recognition on YT. There are only six railway stations (excepting heritage lines) in the whole of Northamptonshire: Northampton, Long Buckby, Kings Norton, Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby. Please correct me if I have missed any! Is this a record low in stations-per-county, please - except Rutland with only one (Oakham)?

Another nicely done video - I grew up in Northamptonshire so this one has been particularly fascinating :)

I was born in Brackley and grew up there. You walked by my old school. Brackley Castle ( now Tesco's) was the place where the original Magna Carta was drawn up and where all the knights congregated before marching on London. As with any negotiation, the original Magna Carta was rejected so the merry knights trotted out of town for a quick re-write in Romsey Marshes. If you think about it, the first draft in any negotiation is always rejected.
The doomsday book quoted it as a lawless town full of footpads and sheep rustlers.

It was probably the lack of railway connections which preserved these fine towns from the ravages of the Industrial Revolution. Like their near neighbour Buckingham, they were already prosperous (often due to the wool trade) before mechanised rail travel. The canal system was all they needed to transport produce. The local landowners (who often made all the decisions on development) not only saw no reason why the railway was helpful to their business, but also feared that easy connections to cities would lead to an influx of less attractive industries and less desirable workers.

Ive been waiting for this video for a while and i wasnt disappointed.

Id correctly guessed the number 1. But it was no contest really. Oundles stunning.

Regarding cities, Northamptonshire used to have peterborough. It must be the only county to lose a city to a neighbouring historic county

Shame about the lack of train stations in Northants. Its definitely annoying. The county has like three parallel north south lines which dont connect. But there's signs of its railway heritage everywhere Thrapstons old railway viaduct is lovely but wouldnt recommend walking on it. Its a bit smelly up there.

Hmmm I am not familiar with any of these top 10 towns nor the villages. Perhaps I am a traveler by train! Thanks Alex. I look forward to your periodic Saturday excursions.

I enjoy watching your videos, but I think that the assertion that Rushden has no Railway Station would be contested by The Rushden, Higham and Wellingborough Railway.

they all seem to have names that are a bit of a mouthful 😁 nice enough places with some fantastic old architecture, but they do look rather dull to live in

Not entirely accurate re railways! It is only this list of 10 that lacks stations, the county itself does not lack railways! Oh, and BTW, Rushden Station still exists and operates as a station, albeit a preserved one.

Since covid they have built enormous housing estates nearly swallowing up the villages by the towns.
The worst I have seen is lovely overstone having a disgusting huge estate joining it to northampton. It's so ugly and bigger than the actual village.
But also, Wellingborough is nearly built up to Irthlingborough and Finedon and Wilby.
All equally ugly estates.
And yet we have more homeless people around town than seen in years!

Only a glimpse of the oldest bookshop in the county, 100 years old last year. 😡

Northamptonshire is being trashed and turned into one huge housing estate. There is no end in sight. As for Northampton. flooded with immigrants. These videos will be irrefutable evidence of how beautiful the "Rose of the Shires" used to be.
