Trump threatens to shut down Twitter after accusing it of 'stifling free speech'

Twitter targeted two tweets the president posted on May 26 in which he contended without evidence that mail-in voting would lead to fraud and a "Rigged Election." The move drew a furious response from Trump, who used the platform to accuse Twitter of "interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election."

To all the international viewers who may not know: one of America's many byzantine quirks is that each of the 50 states has their own rules for how to conduct the election, including how the electors will be awarded. There is no federal standard. What America has is a patchwork quilt wherein some states vote electronically, some with paper ballots, etc. They even furnish their own ballots and voting machines. In fact, Americans of all political leanings have long called for Election Day to be a holiday, so working people don't have to choose between skipping work and voting. This has been consistently ignored by those in power. So for the national Republican Party (not to be confused with the state parties, which are akin to a franchise, ) and the chief executive of the federal government attempt to intervene in how individual states is EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE. They have no authority there, and when called upon to exercise what authority they do have in terms of making the Election Day a federal holiday, they have conspicuously abdicated. They can either follow the Constitution, or strengthen the Constitution using the processes proscribed therein, but to just make it up makes a mockery of America even having good governance. Then it just becomes a banana republic, where the rules only exist where and how the powerful want them to.
