What If Planets Really Were That Close to Each Other?

Hello wonderful person and welcome! My name is Anton and due to the 2020 housing crisis that's going on in some parts of the world, I ended up losing my apartment because the rent became too unbearable. As a result while I'm looking for a new place (probably 3-4 weeks or so), I made some pre-recorded long videos and a few other videos that will be posted daily.
Hope you enjoy them and see you soon.

I love that straight illustration, where there's a sun, yet also a mysterious lightsource that lights the planets from the top right corner

Depictions of the asteroid belt are also misrepresented in vids, showing them packed like rush hour traffic spinning through space.

Moment of silence to the people who actually think everything is that close in space lmaoooo.

People have a hard time with scale too. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that the entire Earth could fit inside Jupiter's red spot. An entire planet awash in another planet's single anticyclonic storm. And that Jupiter itself, which vastly dwarfs all of the interior planets, is itself miniscule when compared to old Sol! And our sun is puny compared to some of those much larger stars!

I'm a big astronomy buff. And one of my favorite facts to tell people is that the distance from earth to the moon is so vast that you could fit all the planets but earth in between.

Oh that explains why you're so good at explaining things.

Didn't know you were a teacher.

Don’t people realize that if the other planets and the moon were that close that you would see them soooo much bigger in the sky? It’s just common sense..

At the Griffiths Observatory in LA,
outside
they have the "sun" as a starting point
and then you can walk a line that
in a relative way, allows you to visit each planet as you get further and further away from the "sun"
by the time you get to Pluto, and look back-WHOA!

I saw a video once that, in effect, made you a photon and had you travel outward from the sun in real time. It took about 45 minutes to get to Jupiter. (That's when I got bored with it & stopped watching.)

Yeah, light takes 45 minutes _at the speed of light_ to reach Jupiter. Things in space are kinda far apart.

the problem is that all the documentaries and illustration never explain the circumstances correctly. pictures of black holes, computer animations, radiowaves and infrared visible for us, wrong scales, lack of redshift, time dilation etc. they never explain it for the "stupid people" and children, they just show spectacular "pictures"

ANTON, thank you for the basic Astronomy. Of course, we, your avid fans/"friends who you've simply not met, " understand this (some perhaps because of you), but we **all** know people who haven't had any Sciences since High School. I actually didn't have any Astrophysics in grade school, except learning the names of the planets, back in 3rd and 4th grades! And I was in 5 different school systems, in 4 states between Kindergarten and 7th grade. It never occurred to me that others weren't aware, weren't curious, didn't watch Cosmos in the late '70s. You are one of the Rare Earth Educators; thank you.

The video from Cody'sLab called "How Far Are The Nearest Stars?" is excellent. It's fun when he says, _"To mark where the nearest star is, we're going to have to leave town..."_ .

Interesting video. I taught second graders the solar system for a few years and unfortunately used an illustration much like you reject, mainly to show the differences in size. I also used NASA pictures to show what the planets really look like, and they were fascinated, especially by Mars, which looks something like the deserts south of Lima Peru, where I live. I remember the first planetarium programs for 8-bit computers--they seem so primitive today compared to Universe Sandbox and Space Engine, both of which I have. I feel lucky to be alive when all the planets have been revealed to us close up by spacecraft. Keep up the good work.

What if parallel Universes really were that close to each other?

i'm amazed at how future sci-fi starship sensors/computers can tell the number/nature/location of planets in a star system right after they arrive considering how little the objects move in the few seconds since scanning started and the sparseness in all the empty space..but i guess that's why they're the future and we're not :-)

Dear Anton.
I love your channel and years ago I bought Universe Sandbox because of you. You don't seem to engage much in the comment section but I give it a try and ask you this:
- Have you watched "A funny thing happened on the way to the moon"? If you did, would you please share some of your thoughts?

Anton. You should watch Grey Still Plays in universe sandbox. Planetary impacts at one million times light speed . Glorious

I love this hypothetical simulation stuff that you do. I'm that "but what if?" kinda guy (Not a contrarian, just thinking outside the box about random stuff) so this stuff is right up my alley.
