This is the 💩part of diabetes that nobody sees.

Let’s set the scene:
It’s 12:30am in the morning, and we were supposed to be up early to head home since we were out of town.
Amelia and I had gone out to a nice Italian dinner, so a high carb, high fat, high protein meal, and of course, my CGM reading was terribly off.
As a result, my blood sugar starts skyrocketing because I’m using the DIY loop.
The loop starts to dose, and dose, and dose because it’s concerned about my blood sugar being high.
Well, once the CGM starts reading correctly, the loop realizes that it’s given way too much insulin… and my blood sugar starts to plummet.
So there I am at 12:30am, chowing down on candy corn that I despise, but trying to balance that with not taking too much so I don’t u-turn and fly up when the fat and protein hit….
but also making sure I don’t take too little because I’m afraid I won’t wake up the next morning.
These are the realities that we live with on a daily basis with diabetes…
..and not only is it stressful, it can be downright scary.
Fortunately, I was okay after this situation, but as much as I attempt to be Mr. Rose Colored Glasses with diabetes, there’s times where I have to keep it real and show the ugly side as well.
