We live just outside Edinburgh and visit the Christmas market. I’ve been to others in Northern Europe but I really like the Edinburgh’s. It’s in a beautiful setting and there’s something for everyone.
Edinburgh also has a huge celebration for New Year. It’s dark here in Winter, as we’re as far North as Alaska and a lot of the New Year festivals are linked to fire. There are fiery torch processions and there’s one further north in Scotland which has burning tar barrels. In the Shetland Islands, off the Far North West, they have a Viking Festival and burn a Viking longboat.. It’s worth checking this out.
