Fourth episode of our Portuguese Adventure!
First of all, thank you, thank you, and thank you for voting for our next destination! (Right after posting the videos, we’ll be posting a poll on our Instagram Stories where you’re going to be able to vote for the place you would like to see us on the next Friday's vlog)

In today’s video, we visited Coimbra! (2 hours by car from Lisbon)
First, We went to Quinta das Lágrimas, which is a luxury hotel with huge gardens, but what that place is really about is the story of Pedro and Inês, the Portuguese Romeo and Juliet. Fonte das Lágrimas is a fountain with huge significance, the water symbolizes Inês’ tears and the red color of the stones in her blood. Stories really make things interesting! After that, we went to Mosteiro de Santa Clara a Nova but unfortunately, they didn’t let us film… But then we went to the new one and it was amazing, it was on maintenance but even though, it was very nice to see all the ruins.
For lunch, we went to Mealhada, a city that is 20 minutes away from Coimbra, it’s the place to go if you want to eat Leitao. The restaurant is called Rei dos Leitoes, the pork was delicious! We always enjoy eating traditional food, of course!
Our next location was the University of Coimbra, a huge touristic attraction for being the oldest university in Europe and for its beauty. It is also a world heritage site by UNESCO. It was beautiful. We stopped by the Botanical Garden of Coimbra right next to an incredible aqueduct, to enjoy some of the beautiful nature that they have.
After seeing the beautiful gardens, we stopped by Penedo da Saudade, a viewpoint with lots of inscriptions from the students, really impressive… We had a traditional snack from Coimbra, a sweet pastry called Cruzio (Big thanks to our lovely subscriber for telling us the spot!) and then, we ended up our journey in Parque Verde, right next to the Mondego River.

Hope that you guys enjoyed our day in Coimbra,

We’re Maria and Du, we met shooting a commercial in Lisbon (Maria’s city) in 2018.
We started a distance relationship flying twice a month (Lisbon - Barcelona) and after a few months of that, we finally moved in together in Barcelona, where Du was born and raised (his parents are from South Korea).
We started our Youtube channel because we love traveling, we always enjoy our trips and we wanted to keep our memories through nice videos, now we can share them with you.
Our final goal would be traveling full-time and some day, helping people around the world doing something good.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed your trip to Coimbra! Since you were, unfortunately, not allowed to see or show all the things due to maintenance, here's some interesting facts:
- King Pedro actually crowned Inês de Castro after her death, so she is known by many has the "Dead Queen". 👑☠️
- The "Joanina" Library of the University of Coimbra was a recognizable inspiration for the set of the Castle's Library designed in the last Disney film of Beauty and the Beast. 👸👹
- In Coimbra the "Traje Académico" is called "Capa e Batina". Most people choose to wear it only after their first year but actually, since it's the University's uniform, you can wear it as long as you're a student there (first year or not). 🎓
- The street you called "Quebra Costas" is not exactly that one, "Quebra Costas" it's a street further down that it's made basically of stairs from hell 🔥 (ahahah).
- Coimbra is also known for its tradicional music, such as "Fado de Coimbra", next time you come to visit you must listen to it! There's a lot of history in our Fado and we sing our City through it. 🎶 In May you have the Monumental Serenade for all the students in Sé Velha as you say, where you listen to Fado de Coimbra (including Baladas da Despedida) - you can watch on YouTube the videos of some livestreams recorded in the past where thousands of students wearing "Capa e Batina" gather for that special moment of their academic lives. 🖤

There's many more interesting things about Coimbra and its traditions, I'm sorry you didn't have the time to catch them all up, I hope I gave you guys a glimpse! Take care! 😃

I studied in Coimbra and there’s nothing like the it’s lifestyle. Because of the famous University, lots of tourists go visit there. So the blend between the youth of the students, the traditions of the locals and the curiosity of the tourists make it a very special and welcoming city!

Just a "heads up" info... Coimbra University is the 2nd oldest University in Europe and 2nd oldest in the world, after Salamanca University, which was first. Coimbra University just did 730 Years of existence last October, the 14th.... Not only I'm proud of my City, but also my Institution where I had the pleasure to graduate and work inside it for 2 decades... "Coimbra... tem mais encanto... na hora.... da despedida..." In my case, it will have way more charm when I'll "return home (Institution)"... One day I will return home... One day... Thank you...

Aquele sítio não era o "quebra costas". O "quebra", assim mais conhecido, são as escadas ingremes que ligam a Sé Velha até ao Arco da Almedina.
P.S. Eu estudo em Coimbra.
