I'm from kerala and I actually thought of how similar it was to our chuttuvaal/urumi used in kalaripayttu and it made me love her character even more. I'm more used to calling it a chuttuvaal which loosely translates as chuttu= surround and vaal=sword in malayalam.

Under the British rule however this sword art was heavily discouraged for fear of a rebellion, regardless it's very beautiful to watch. The fighters only wear a loin cloth and have their sword worn as a belt and a round shield. This style requires you to have speed, flexibility and total control of your body parts while you fight and the agile style has birthed many inspirations of it in martial arts in different parts of Asia such as Kung fu, Judo and so on.

I would definitely encourage everyone to watch kalaripayttu to see it in real action. 😊
