THE VERY LAST TRAMS depart the closed North Fitzroy Tram Depot

This week Schony747 features the final trams to ever leave the former and now disused North Fitzroy Tram Depot here in Melbourne. The depot opened in 1956 after tram services were restored to Bourke St in the centre of town. The depot closed in 1993. The depot reopened in 2008 to cater for City Circle Tram services until 2011. In recent years, the depot has been the home of 6 withdrawn W class trams. A few years ago the track entry to the depot was disconnected from the route 96 main, line. So ironically, the last trams to ever lleave the depot were taken by truck.

Have a great week - Brenden S.

Beautiful W class, the former lifeblood of Melbourne. I hope they are going to be well cared for and kept safe. ❤

Watching the comings and goings of this depot from the wonderful Treat of France cafe across the road makes for a great Saturday outing.

Drove past there again today, noticed the tram tracks going in. North Fitzroy is a kind of special place for a guy from Burnley as one of my first girlfriends lived there.

Good to see well preserved trams with no tags on them.
Obviously the bus company needs the space now.

I live 180 metres away and I had no idea that was happening. I assumed the trams went years ago when they lifted the connecting track. In any case the area in front of the tram shed has been used as part of the bus depot for ages.
