Backpack: It a must have mod if you like to explore while afraid of inventory space
Craftguide: Help you tracking available craft recipe/potion that craftable with crafttable/brewing
Dynamic Sword skill: More way to kill an zombie than just slash it with sword
Enchant View: Allow you to know which enchant effect will be applie
Inventory Tweaks: Add option of sorting and refill item if that item run out in hotbar
Minecraft Come Alive, Better Villager: More villager location and improve villager
Little Maid Mod: Bring a maid along with your adventure
Smart Moving: improve movement of player
Voxelmap: Helping navigate more easier
Touhou Item mod: Many useful item and danmaku
Twilight Forest: my favorite and best mod
Rope+: help climbing more safer
RPG relate mod: make minecraft like RPG game

In my opinion, the most impressive mod in Minecraft history is the Lord of the Rings mod.

The legends mode by tihyo is extremely cool too, it adds superheroes for DC and marvel, you can also be a jedi

Using 1.7.10 because of my fav modpack, Tekkit Legends. I use 1.12.2 because of the lots of mods (that the majority of moved to more recent versions) that support it.

There is an add-on for dynamic trees that adds support for biomes o'plenty, so i suggest putting those mods together
