Books to Read if You Like Over the Garden Wall 10 Book Recommendations

Hello friends, I recently shared over on my TikTok a few books to read if you like Over the Garden Wall. Some of you may know that I am a huge fan of the animated series, Over the Garden Wall. It encaptures all things whimsical, eerie, and cozy that I absolutely love in movies, series & books! The video I shared on TikTok became fairly popular so I decided to make a longer format for my community here on Y.T.

If you happen to be unfamiliar with the animated series Over the Garden Wall, the series follows two brothers named Greg & Wirt who are trying to find their way home after getting lost in a forest called "The Unknown." Along their journey trying to find their way home, they encounter strange people and even more stranger towns. One would say that this is about two brothers with different personalities needing to work together to get home, but I believe the series encaptures many deep meanings that I find myself still reflecting on and resonating with.

n this video, I am sharing 10 books to read that give off Over the Garden Wall vibes. If you have any more recommendations like these, please comment them down below!

I highly recommend the Fairyland series by Catherynne M. Valente, starting with "The girl who circumnavigated Fairyland in a ship of her own making". It is like a warm hug but it can also bite you a bit with its sharp little teeth... And the prose!! Scrumptious, magickal and wonderfully weird!
Thanks for the lovely list and have a wonderful spooky season 🦇

I adore otgw, so this is the perfect list❤.

btw, for anyone who's interested: the author name of Over the Woodward Wall is another pen name for Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant and Colin Meloy, the author of Wildwood is also the singer for the band The Decemberists.

I don't think I've ever clicked on a video faster in my life than this one - I "Over the Garden Wall" 🎃🕯🐸 Thank you so much for these book recommendations! Of all the books mentioned, I've only read "Shady Hollow" (the whole series is highly recommended from my point of view, I hope you enjoy the second instalment), so now I have loads of new books on my wishlist. Yay! 📚❤️

I realllly like the aesthetic of Over the Garden Wall, but I'm honestly wayyyy more of a book reader than a show/film watcher. Thanks for the recs!!

I've never watched Over the Garden Wall but I've heard it's wonderful and I do want to watch it. I do love Shady Hollow and need to continue the series. There's a two month wait on Libby for The Clackity, but spooky season doesn't end in October. I think winter is pretty spooky too. A Psalm for the Wild-Built and its sequel are beautiful books that I highly recommend.

I love the Shady Hollow Series! I'm starting Summers End this week. I started watching Over the Garden Wall and then it got removed from whatever streaming service it was on. But now I want to watch it this season so I may just have to find the DVD.

Adding all of these to my list! Have read the book of lost things and can confirm - its great. Feels like an old fairytale! And funnily enough I also found the Oyster Boy story collection second hand 😂
Psalm of the wild built is one of my faves - its such a hopeful story and makes me want more cozy sci-fi.
Edit: want to add anything by t.kingfisher to the list, the gormenghast trilogy and anything by fracis hardinge for earthy eerie vibes

I love OTGW as well. Not sure if I'd compare these videos to OTGW, except in the sense of being amazing and worth watching no matter what your biological age. I'm talking about The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and Wolkwalkers, all created as a trilogy of Irish Folklore. I haven't seen Wolfwalker yet but I'm sure it's just as amazing as the first two movies.
