These are my favourite iPhone apps to use for Adventure Riding. The most common question I get asked in the channel is What app is that? What am I using for navigation? So I've got a whole bunch of iPhone apps that I've used over the years. I'm gonna show you the ones that I like, all the pros and cons, and I'm also gonna show you the ones that I really dislike.

00:00 - Intro
01:26 - GPS Tracks
03:11 - Speedometer Pro
06:17 - Gaia Maps
08:06 - REVER
10:32 - HEMA
11:31 - OSMAnd

I use Gaia on an old phone (android) without a sim. I've never had an issue with it crashing. I prepare rides on a pc at home, sync it to the cloud, load onto to the app, and away I go. It's my main navigation app for recreational riding. For day to day, on the bitumen, I use Google maps.

Watching a couple of similar videos right now and I have to say your use of the screen capture to show us what you are seeing is a great addition to this video. Other youtubers just want you to hopefully be able to see what's on their screen from their gopro and it just doesn't work. Thanks for taking the time to make this and excellent job in making it useful.

I usually do not use to many apps. I do listen to music while riding though.
Take care, ride safe.

thanks for taking the time to run the same route, with the different apps, so we could see the difference 👍

Great work! Very helpful. I was using Gaia and it was also crashing when using it. Will give OSMAnd a try now. Cheers

I run Hema, in regards to the tracks you create not being visable, you have to go into settings on app and do a manual ‘sync’ to retrieve from hema cloud onto device.

Nice look at a few of the apps available- cheers for that. And yep, it's OsmAnd for me (as a back up to my Tomtom). Great free app, although not perfect- as you touched on. Cheers

Thanks for the great video.
I am looking up Speedometer, but it is retiring a lot of hits in the App Store.
Any chance of getting a link to the one you reviewed?

Thanks, NM.

Thank you - very helpful. I'm just wondering how these all compared to a typical dedicated Garmin GPS unit please?

I’d love to see a version of this video using a Chigee for the display. Maybe they could hook you up for a review version? 😉

So OSM will give visual turn prompts (no audio) when on a track? I downloaded OSM free version and it wouldn’t import a GPX track. I use GAIA to create a route, export it to a file on my phone, convert it to a track with GPS Visualizer, save it to my phone, import the track to GAIA and my Garmin Tread. I haven’t found an app that will do all that. My Garmin is my main navigation tool to follow a track or route, GAIA to create routes (it won’t convert routes to tracks)
