The pre-op diet that we advise for people who undergo gastric bypass surgery would be to put them on a liquid diet atleast for 2 to 3 weeks, the reason being these obese patients who are undergoing gastric bypass will have a very soft liver with the fat fill within the liver so when operating there is one part of the liver that overlaps. So what happens is if the liver is soft then there is a good chance of injury to the liver. so to make the liver firm we put the patients on a liquid diet so that they get adapted to eating liquid diet and simultaneously the liver becomes firm within 15 to 20 days, so this is the prop diet we advise post op there is a definite pattern of diet to be followed. Immediate post op we do not give any food for 24 hours because we have done anostomosis. Maybe upto 48 hours by some doctor, some surgeon. So after that what we do is some doctors prefer to do some contrast study to look for the leaks. Once the leak is not present in the contrast study
