Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is very proud to offer this Hemi Orange 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda AAR for sale. This numbers-matching beast is reputedly in the hands of its fourth owner, who has had it for 20 years. It was restored by its then second owner back in 1995 and has only been occasionally driven since then. The 'Cuda AAR was a one year only car for Plymouth, back in 1970. Originally built to assist Plymouth in their efforts to meet homologation requirements for SCCA Trans-Am racing series, the production AAR cars were designed to look just like the AAR racing cars campaigned by the All American Racers auto racing team that Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby founded in 1964. The 'Cuda AAR Trans-Am cars were piloted primarily by Swede Savage and Dan Gurney during the 1970 season. They captured 3 poles and managed a runner up finish. With a production total of around 2724 units, these 'Cudas are not easy to find these days. The 'Cuda AAR cars all came standard with a 340 CID V8, topped by 3 two-barrel carbs, a special fiberglass hood (with functional scoop), special "eyebrow" front spoilers, a special "Duck Wing" rear spoiler, and side-exit exhaust; all of which were unique to the 'Cuda AAR variants. For SCCA Trans-Am racing, the 340 was de-stroked to 305 cubic inches to meet the 5.0-liter restriction imposed by the SCCA. The 340 "six barrel" was rated at 290 HP and 335 LB-FT of torque, but most pundits believe those figures were underrated vs. actual output.
