Seattle City Council overrides Durkan's budget vetoes over police funds

The Seattle City Council voted Tuesday to override Mayor Jenny Durkan's veto of three bills that would boost community programs and cut money and jobs in the police department.

During a special meeting, the council unanimously overrode Durkan's veto on two measures, Council Bills 119862 and 119863.

On the third bill, Council Bill 119825 the council overrode Durkan's veto with a 8-2 vote. Councilmembers Debora Juarez and Alex Pedersen voted to sustain the mayor's veto.

Mayor Jenny Durkan's, I salute you as you tried to stand up to the liberal bullies. The records will show you took a stand to fight for majority of Seattle's residents. Councilmembers names who vetoed the Mayor should be engraved and put on city hall. No one should forget how the downfall of Seattle began, these scared cowards not standing up for the true well being of the city.

Do people understand what defunding means?
Let’s take mental health professionals and train them in “street and home care”
Police are not trained to handle mental health issues that arise during a crisis. If police could focus on “corruption and crimes” and not domestic violence and homelessness they’d be more efficient in their jobs. This isn’t about having less police...it’s spreading the responsibilities out to more qualified individuals. Give the police who’s jobs are in jeopardy the first opportunity to train them in mental health awareness to be part of the new “task force”... if that interests them.
This isn’t us against them. This is let’s make changes to better care for our citizens.
