The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 is all-new for 2024, with a fresh design and improved performance. But is it good enough to justify its price premium over the also excellent BMW M8 Competition? In this video, Edmunds’ Brian Wong puts the two German sports cars to the test at our track to find out.

In every other online drag race between these cars the M8 smokes the AMG GT63. There is either something wrong with the car you used or you didn’t launch it correctly

I went M8 GC from a Benz. Nothing wrong with my past Benz experience but the price difference is large, and I prefer the way the BMW drives. Can't go wrong with either car.

I own a 2023 M8. You can get a WilkinsBowers sound system which is as good as the Burmeister which I had in a S63. As for the interior, it certainly is not dated but very luxurious!

One thing in favor of M8's interior not mentioned is that unlike the Mercedes (and newer BMWs), the climate functions are operated by easier and safer to use physical controls, rather than putting them on the touchscreen.

I'd take the M8. Better all round performer.
I prefer the looks of it as well, one of the best-looking BMWs ever.

The things is, the AMG GT used to be such sporty car, but the new gen is so heavy and lost the DCT and transaxle layout, etc... It could've been so much better than the M8. The previous gen AMG GT felt so brutal to drive, especially the GTR and upwards.

Yep, keep getting the same result from every review ... new AMG GT is too expensive for what it delivers. Buy used or wait for heavy dealer discounts.

The fact the all-new AMG GT barely keeps up with a 4 year old competitor (at a $50k premium! ) certainly says something. Give me an old GT-R any day, looks better, drives better and a lot more fun. 4, 300 pounds of 4wD clinical perfection does not sound fun to me

the bmw m8 comp is a 10.7-10.9 1/4 mile car. this 11.2 run and 3.2 0-60 is very "slow" for it.
