Man this episode hit differently. Columbo usually does his schtick showing how clever he is but this time it felt like he's really holding back. He said he admired her all of his life. Imagine admiring someone and you find out they're a murderer? Falk picked correctly when choosing how to express his emotions in this scene.

Her defeated look at 3:06 is so well done. Really kind of heartbreaking in a way. Just a thoroughly well acted scene by both Anne Baxter and Peter Falk. I would really put it up there as one of the best scenes of the series.

2:54 This is one of the best written and best delivered lines in the series. I love how he manages to say something really dark and gruesome without actually saying it.

I hadn't noticed it before but Columbo tries to calm her by holding her arm at 5:15. Falk said one of his cardinal rules about the Columbo character was that he would always treat everyone, including the killer, with dignity. This episode shows why legendary actress Anne Baxter won an Oscar. They were able to cast many Oscar-winning actors in Columbo.

3:05 - music cue = the "you got me" moment. Beautiful how Columbo puts his cards on the table and she does the exact same after this moment. Fantastic acting from both!

One thing I love about Peter Falk's character is, no matter how much he likes (or dislike) his suspects (Louis Jordon, Robert Foxworthy, he treats everyone with dignity and respect. The world would be a much better place if everyone behaved like Columbo.

Anne Baxter is luminous here. She steals every scene in which she appears. Brilliant.

"Why fountain doesn't run? That's what fountains are for!" So much wisdom!

She is an actress caught in a double murder, and of course needs to overact a bit. But she's playing a part...very well. And Columbo is matching her scene for scene.
Classic.

This was an excellent episode. Anne Baxter was masterful as she acted as though she cared about Jean Davis and couldn't have killed her. What made the performance so great is that she was acting while acting giving us the illusion that Nora was simply acting to try and fool Columbo. Just a great episode. Even Mel Ferrer was excellent as sleazy Jerry Parks.

0:06 Lights!
This is fast becoming my favorite Columbo takedown.
Anne Baxter - the best murderess ever?

Anne Baxter was so beautiful, as were many of the actors/actresses who were on this show. I grew up without a tv in the house until I was 13, but even then it was only for rented movies. My dad was a pastor and was extremely religious. I missed so many awesome shows like this. Now when I get to watch them, it makes me glad I am able to enjoy the amazingly talented people who made these shows so great.

Anne Baxter was 50 years old here and looked stunning the whole time. She really was one of Hollywood's great beauties.

Yeah a fountain that didn't run water that was something that couldn't be explained. Columbo's notebook came in handy on this one.

I so enjoyed this ep and Anne's performance that I looked up some of Baxter's earlier roles, and while she was certainly lovely in her youth, I weirdly think she actually peaked here in her autumn years. I'm not generally into "grannies", but she is just so darned attractive here!

Mrs Columbo is such an understanding and loyal wife. The amount of her heroes he's put behind bars 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️
