Why don't they change the rule so that whenever it hits a player's arm, its an indirect free kick (unless deliberate or denying a clear goal scoring opportunity)? I'm sure they do something similar in hockey and it works well. No moaning from either side as it doesn't matter whether its unfortunate or not!

As a West Ham fan who was annoyed at the result last night, I don't want to see penalties like that awarded. It is clearly accidental. However, by the letter of the law, and to be consistent with rulings all over Europe this season; Thiago has denied West Ham a chance to progress the ball in the box and score a goal using his hand. Has to be pen!

Lunging into the challenge like he did was dangerous in itself, and since he had to put your hand down to stop it looking outright violent then it hits your hand and tough! Pen everyday in every ground.
