Use a gas/diesel/propane generator to charge the solar one, then use that at night if you dont have panels or lack of sunlight- diesel can be stored safely for 10 yrs, gasoline for 1 yr and propane is indefinitely.

This sounds exactly what happened in NJ during Superstorm Sandy. Gas stations commandeered by police, stores were cash only, all refrigerated foods in stores thrown out, as they fixed transformers more exploded. We were out of power for 15 DAYS. Hopefully that will not be the case for Washington

We were without power for two weeks with hurricane Ida. Our rv was a blessing. Onan generator and propane. Ive gotten some solar stuff after that experience. Its hard to predict what we might need next. Blessings. Adam. My bible was of great comfort and will be esp if a war happens. People need a relationship with Jesus Christ life is hard thats the best prep and the rest will come easier.

When our family moved to Maine and saw they had power outages from tree limbs being downed in storms, heavy wet snow, wind. We bought a whole generator that automatically switched on. It saved Christmas for us and we had guests. We live in a country road with overhanging tree limbs. The town has down so free trimming so hopefully it won't be as bad. We even offered our home to neighbors during those times. To sleep, get hot water, cook food or do laundry. But nobody has taken us up on that offer. We are the only ones to have a generator like that in our neighborhood. It is monitored and serviced by a company. Can this type of generator be protected during an EMP? It still needs fuel to run. It's hooked up to our gas tank.

I'm north of you up in Canada. That sucks man! I always stress the importance of keeping all preps charged and ready. I learned just like you did. And please check your gens on a regular basis... oil and run it for a bit. I do it once a month if it's not used during that month. 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

Nine weeks without power after hurricane Andrew. It is doable. I had training...can't emphasize that enough. Experience and confidence...I had a wild hair to build a fire and use just one match, and keep it going for a year, a few years before the hurricane. Stood me in good stead when the shtf. Nothing better than being prepared to lay back and let the insanity break around you.
