China to See Mass County Bankruptcies; 20 Million in Revenue vs. 1 Billion in Expenses

Today, I spent the entire morning walking around this town, and I noticed that at least two-thirds of the shops are closed. The place feels deserted. I even had trouble finding the breakfast place I usually go to. This is supposed to be a busy area, a popular tourist spot with a landmark building, but all the shops behind me are closed. Look at this street, it's still beautiful, but everything is shut down. Behind me is an artificial lake, and the whole row of shops here is closed, even the parking area. This one shop is open, but I’m not sure if there’s anyone inside. Starting from the first shop down the row, they’re all closed. This street is beautiful, but there’s absolutely no one around, and it’s all closed up, all the way down.

The silver lining in China being in a Great Depression is that there's a lot less air pollution compared to a few years ago.

People have no money. People are saving money. People have left the town. People have escaped the country. People have died from man made bugs

Sort of the worst of both capitalism and communism: institutionalized nepotism.

You have to love it! They keep asking "Where did everyone go?" "What's going on?" These have to be rhetorical questions as surely they really do know.

When the big employers of a town leave, the town suffers and falls to ruin. When the only large employer left is the local government, there's nowhere to get the revenue to keep it going.

I've always look at being a goverment employee as the most stable kind of job. But when public employee are in trouble that doesnt mean that theyre the only one in trouble it means that the economy of the nation is in shit and everybody is in shit

Government payrolls don`t help the local economies. If county employees are "dead weight" meaning their jobs are not a necessity for decent city services. Bloated government jobs cost private businesses.Just because it`s a "safe" job with little benefit to the taxpayers doesn`t make it an asset.Big government payrolls got the Chinese into this predicament .Counties had to keep selling land that wasn`t needed on the real estate market because they had to pay for workers and their "bonuses". Everyone wants a cushy job those are usually mid level bureaucrats pushing paper around on their desks. That is the challenge, keeping the workers that actually do the meaningful labor.

Part of their problem is that they have too many layers of civil servants. In Iowa we have some counties that have less than 10, 000 people, but still have to maintain county services. They combine jobs so one person may have several positions, all of them part time. Two or more counties combine for certain services. Needs are served, budgets are met.

Wait what it's an area you go to all the time, but just because it's not busy you couldn't find a place that you go all the time that's very bizarre

I've often wondered, do "restaurants and eateries" fall into the asset or liability column? They do not "produce" they "process".
At what point between planting the seed and consuming the bread does the "asset" become a "liability"?
