The ninja had to learn Self Defense, to be able to protect themselves while on a mission. One of the traditional schools of martial arts the ninja would train in is called “Koto ryu Koppojutsu”, which translates out as “Tiger Knockdown School of Bone Breaking”. In Koto-ryu, there is a secret self defense technique called “Batsugi”.
.
Batsugi means: “To Pull Away” or “To Remove” and refers to the skill of defending themselves against an aggressive opponent who is grabbing them.
.
In this ninja self defense technique, once the opponent grabs the lapel, the ninja would counter grab with the left hand and step to the right, to execute a Shako-ken (claw strike / palm heel strike) to the face. To finish, step to the left using Yoko Aruki to force more pressure downward for a bone breaking technique, breaking their wrist and taking them to the ground.
.
This lesson is directly for those training in the traditional Japanese martial arts and self-defense techniques of the ninja and samurai, such as ninjutsu (ninpo) and bujutsu (budo).
