My Pet Peeves in the Romance Genres | Month of Romance

I talk about some of my personal pet peeves in romance. These are mostly minor things that just make me rule my eyes when I’m reading. So, I’m a little more passionate about. But most importantly, they are my opinions.

I 100% agree with your aversion to the word s@#$. I have unsubscribed to some booktubers because of it. It seems like some who are just getting into the romance genre use this word a lot and it really frustrates and distresses me. I have been reading romance for 40 years and in that time I have seen so much denigration of the genre and the fact so many are now using a word to describe the genre as such because of the sexual content makes me so mad. Particularly because they use terminology such as inclusive and diverse for other genres, which is great and then romance is 's@#$! My favourite genre has fought so hard for its place on both library and bookshop shelves and it feels like we are moving backwards because of a few who are new to the genre and choose to use such a negative word. It's almost like they are embarrassed to say romance. Grrrr. Love this series of videos x

I agree with everything that you say! Ughh Everytime I see the condom in a wallet trope I'm like.... What are you, sixteen??
One that I hate is when the heroine is virgin and the hero is super experienced, and somehow the first time is amazing and she's like a sex goddess .... No, first times are usually akward. But what really bothers me is that is always the female the one that is virgin, as is the male has to claim her is something...

if a problem can be resolved with one conversation, it is unnecasary drama or a 21 century heroine extremaly naive, I hate those tropes

Agree completely on love triangles, not communicating, and cheating. Ugh, and I hate the "big secret" when it doesn't get revealed until the end of the book. I hate lying in my books, in general. And yeah, the contraception thing gets on my nerves, too.

I'm trash so I actually like sometimes a cheating hero lol and a good doormat heroine....and I'm kind of into the say stop now or else I won't be able to stop....and the I have to leave you to protect you haha i have low standards

You have to do smutathon!!!! But rename it to like steamathon or something

Edit: I also am not into love triangles and another trope I can't stand is the 21st century thinking woman who was born in the 1800s like where she's extra independent I-don't-need-no-man
