Well, obviously this sort of hacking is really wrong and dishonest, but here's the thing. If you buy fake plays for money from a service, and that in turn gets you real plays and draws real attention to you, how is that any different from paying for ads or promotional services that will achieve virtually the same result?

This has been going on for years. Major labels and artists are for sure doing this it's more platinum artists and signed artist off of streams and not actual album sales. Spotify should do better but it starts with the musicians. People need to learn how to advertise and promote. Most don't have a marketing strategy.

Everyone is going to end up being booted off Spotify and won't let you back in bcuz of the fake plays

All streaming services are vulnerable. They were ready to make money, but didn’t spend any time or money on security. The more they tighten security the more holes are found. Welcome to the digital age...

This just happened to me today while I was driving home, it definitely freaked me out. The second I got home, I changed my password and clicked "log out of all devices". However, my biggest concern is if it's enough to just change the password and log out? Will they somehow get access to my billing/credit card information since I pay for premium? If it was a free account I wouldn't be so worried.

Spotify should really pay more to the artists... perhaps that's one of the reasons it get hacked

Recently I've had a lot of songs showing up in my personal playlists without me adding them. And they're all from the Strange Fruits label ... 🤔🤔

to all those saying its dumb strategy, its not . there are alot of good artists that make good music but in reality doesnt get alot of exposure cuz there are tons of new music each day, people who fake doesnt Necessarily has bad music, therefore once they reach spotlights by faking the are generating more ( real ) views and real fans.

I always thought they used bots to generate fake views for people who pay them money. It would be way more easy then stealing thousands of peoples information, at least I would think. Honestly both could happen.

My acc was hacked few months ago as well, and at the time I was using only FB login (which has a 2 factor authentication and is not hacked). Someone in Asia was using it, not a bot-farm like the one in your Video. Since then I've disabled the FB connection and set a normal "16+ characters" password and now it's only my daughter that's messing with my stream :)

a year later and nothings changed and all the playlisting companies are using these methods to create real looking playlists they can charge artists to get on that just spam fake plays...it's so cancer

Thanks for sharing this information. This must be addressed by Spotify. Millions of artists depend on Spotify. I hope our governments can enforce security to be taken seriously by such companies.

Thanks for sharing this Jon, someone at Spotify should really start to look into it. Still, we all know how deep major labels have their hands in the Spotify business, so I doubt anything will happen unfortunately.

its fucking annoying when i try to listen to music and then all of a sudden some trash song comes on by an unknown artist, and then whenever i wake up i get random playlists on my account

Well. It is not fair and it shouldn't happen but tell me one thing in life that is fair? I have 5 legit plays on Spotify at the moment and I'm trying to make my way up without fake plays. Let's see what happens ;)

I’m not a Spotify user. You are the only producer I follow. I only listen to EDM music on your channel. It is good music. So, what do you think of a producer saying something like, ‘my new single has just been released, listen to it on Spotify and put it on replay’?

Explains alot why theres so much garbage on the new playlists

Again, the problem with IT security of end users. Use a password manager. Random generate separate passwords for each service you use. Use 2FA with a proven account provider and use that account to login to Spotify and other services. I know, it is less convenient than using the same password everywhere, but would at least block criminals from using your account.
