Want to Learn How to Trade? Don't Read Books! (here's why...)

So you want to learn how to trade the stock market and make money online? Great! Perhaps you are wondering what some of the best books on stock trading to read are? While I would say your line of thinking is completely logical and a good place to start, it's essentially the worst place to start! Yes, I know growing up we are taught the value in reading (which is true!); however, in the world of actually learning how to trade stocks and make consistent money online, there is much more to it than words on a page. I've purchased and read several "how to trade" books and now that I have over a decade of experience in the markets, I absolutely need to question whether or not the authors have ever traded a stock in their life. Now of course books have their value and you can gain some basic understanding and knowledge from them, but there are some areas of trading that simply can not be taught from letters on a page. Bottom line, if you want to learn how to trade properly, stay away from books! Let me show you one minor (but powerful) example of why I believe this.

I’m learning from experience but reading books definitely doesn’t hurt in boosting my knowledge a bit more

I just lost 12 minutes of my time with something that I could have learnt reading one page of a good book for 1 minute

I'd disagree I'm continually reading as many trading books as I can, while actively trading, to get better and better. And it's working. Mostly the books on psychology, self discipline and how to improve every day is what is really helpful.

That said you can't just read books then be a profitable trader. So I know what your saying. But on the same token there is still some powerful stuff you can find in books that can really improve your trading.

As a beginner solidifying my knowledge is essential so a couple books will help but the real learning will come from actually trading and testing strategies. It’s like learning how to drive, the real learning starts when you out on the road alone after passing your test .

I'm pretty happy with my first week of trading. Just started with 10 dollars and I made 42 cents, few more weeks of practice and I'll try upping my game. Even with 10 dollars trading is way more stressful than I was expecting!

I think building an individual trading strategy is a big puzzle. And every book has one piece of that puzzle for everyone who wants to trade for living. Newbies need books Clay !

1.) If you have zero experience, read a book. 2.) don't forget to use a paper trading account before you use your real money. 3.)Never trade with money you can't afford to lose.4.) Don't ever stop learning, books, videos, other people, blogs, chats, ALL information is useful.

Nice video, even 3 years after it makes sense BUT which book would you recommend for graphical analysis? There's a lot of info out there, a lot of indicators, do you know any book that teaches about indicators, how to analyse better, etc?

Books on the psychology of trading are priceless, I agree a book shouldn’t tell you what your comfortable with or not and exactly what to trade but it’s very hard to recognize your psychological mistakes

I agree with most of what you have said, books are for motivation and it is enough for any book to give you only one idea and it is fine, at last, it needs a lot of work to figure out something works and suits your thinking and personality and you should be sure that there is a way out of so many fabulous strategies and when you have it you are going to be a new market wizard, keep it secret and be sure that there is no one gives you his or her exhaustion on a silver plate.

I really appreciate the intent on the video and I don't say this in a bad way however, while some books are extremely bad, some are very good ones. Yes the market experience is very different, that's why a group of people don't even advice paper trading, because once you put the real money on the line, you'll feel all kinds of emotions. However a lot of these books do talk about the emotions you have to go through. Independently of whether you follow a plan or not based on your emotions, the truth is that a lot of these books do prepare you very well to trade and to be successful, but you cant acquire the life's experiences from a book, you have to trade and lose and win in order to ultimately get better. a Good example is this, if you perform heart surgery without reading any books on the subject, you will end up killing a lot more patients over the long run as opposed to if you actually studied the material and learned it perfectly prior to performing the procedure. Good Luck and have a great day

Charting and Technical Analysis by Fred McAllen and “Trading the Trends” are two books that are gold! If you had never read them and you’re interested in trading you’re doing yourself a great dis service📚

If you like... Read 200 books. It doesn't concern the financial market. Trading is not as easy as reading book. Books reading is good. But. It doesn't work in forex. You just have to get in and take action continuously especially when you fail.

I've read a few books but I personally prefer watching live videos and trade recaps. Nice video!

I was planning on ordering two books you highly recommended, not that changing your mind is wrong, actually that's a sign of a smart person but would you still recommend them or not ? Straight up Thanks

I kinda agree on "don't waste too much time on reading trading books". You can learn, however, by more suffecient means, as trading courses, but if you feel like reading, read as little as you need.
