Fun fact: that synthesizer that Gary is using is modeled after an old Moog Modular and costs ~$150, 000 today

See guys? David Bowie did not die, he had to return to his homeworld to free his people and let music reign supreme.

A person named Jeremy broke this battle down in the best way.
"The point of the duel was to see who could make better music, since from David's point of view music is not worth it if it is dissonant and does not respect a pattern, while Gary thinks that music should be free and dissonant.
At first we see how David attacks Gary with a series of notes that scale with rhythm. Gary responds with an impromptu melody that rarely repeats the same notes.
Then we reached the peak of the confrontation, where both melodies were supposed to face each other.
But to David's surprise, instead of confronting Gary, he makes their melodies combine to finally close with their dissonance.
In other words, Gary through a dissonant melody managed to control and absorb a harmonious melody, thus creating a perfect melody.
David shocked at this revealed truth can not say anything more than " thanks "

The love on that old synth is just heart warming.
It isn't anything insanely cool in itself, just a box that makes noise, but what you can do with it surpasses a lot of gear. Even today it's range is impressive.

The music has no right to be this good for a cartoon about a bird and a raccoon working for a gum ball machine in a park.

I love how everything in Regular show is like a surreal version of neo 1980s from references to technology to music.

I hope the person that created and synthesized the theme for Gary to play got a raise before they ended production with the season finale for season 8, because that sure is some of the most epic music that has been created for this show

gary is literally the only lad that looks cool with an underwear, yes even cooler than superman

As someone who plays synthesizer I can tell you this is exactly how it feels

I love that they don't look at their instruments. They're almost deadlocked in on their opponents. The flow of radically bodacious tunes is just a flex of their mastery on one another and us the lucky spectator.
As a side I can see what someone in the comments said.
The other gent seems to just show his tunes while the other puts spirit and effort into his magic. A real show of pride that the other dude had to break out his second form while the other simply just styled all over his balls.

Yeah I’m for Gary but ngl David’s part at 0:45 gives me goosebumps.

The fact that they look so disinterested in it makes it seem like this is simple beats and rhythms. Which makes me wonder if this was like 5% music power and what 95% would be.

The soundtrack in this show will always be amazing

I feel like this could be a whole show, like an anime where you have a bunch of different powerful heroes fighting except it would all be crazy music duels like this. You could even have the music of each character be done by a specific artist and have it be kind of a real musical competition.

This is how I knew Regular Show was to be one of the best cartoons in history. 80's music all around
