Title: Layla
Artist: Derek And The Dominos
Album: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs
Year: 1970

I do not claim ownership to this song.

Lyrics:

What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.

Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.

Chorus

Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain.

Chorus

1970. I (27) was madly in love with a 21-year-old, woman who went on to do modeling. A real beauty. But ya know, that was only a part of it. She had this amazing sexy, fluid tenor voice and a laugh that would melt my heart. SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS SONG. I bought the cassette and every time we hit the road, top-down on a Buick Grand Sport, we'd sing, pound on the dash, swinging and swaying....Sadly, I drove her to modeling school in Miami 2 years later and we never saw one another again. This song still after all these years tugs at my heartstrings.

The first three minutes of the song are just the foreplay to the magical piano part and ending.... A masterpiece!

Probably the greatest guitar track of ALL TIME. Sheer raw, crazy splendour.

This entire sing is amazing but from about 3:10 to the end to the end of the song the music alone is so soothing it's hard to describe. Arguably one of the best peces of music ever!

As I write this comment I am showing my 1 day old Daughter Layla the song she was named after for the first time. As soon as the piano kicked in she immediately calmed down. Love you forever my sweet baby Layla.

No one is talking about Jim Gordon's drumming. He smashed the drums in this one!!

The majority of my friends only like the first three minutes of this song, but personally you have to listen to all of it to get the most out of it. It's one of the best songs ever created

Happy Birthday
Funny story about this song. A couple of years ago, I had heard the "Classic Rock" station play this song on about 3 different occasions and cut in before the song was over. I HAD to e-mail them and tell them, you can't call yourself a "Classic Rock" station if you are going to do that! The song is NOT over until Duane does the "little bird" at the end! About 2-3 days after my e-mail I heard the song again on the station and they waited until it was over and the DJ wait for the bird, it's not over until then". I guess I got through to them! :)

Thank you Patti Boyd, for inspiring 2 of the greatest love songs ever - this song and Something in the Way She Moves. What a muse.
