How many of these commonly used English words (containing silent letters) do you mispronounce? Silent letters have caught us all out at some point in our language learning journey. There aren't really any helpful rules to follow, so the best thing to do is become familiar with the correct pronunciation of each individual word.

Thanks Anna. As a child at primary school I was always being corrected over my pronunciation of cupboard and it's silent "p". I would say cup-board and the teacher would correct me, eventually I just mimicked everyone else. Secretly I still want to say cup-board. Who said English pronunciation and things such as silent letters make sense. They just are!
