I also recommend Medibang, Paintstorm and Clip Studio Paint. People always seems to miss those even though they are just as powerful as Procreate, if not more.

Hi, Lisa
Super Job with the quick descriptions of all the popular drawing/painting/image editing apps.
I was pretty impressed with this particular video!

I use Procreate and ArtStudio Pro. ArtStudio has a great brush engine, you can even import/export Photoshop brushes. Their selection tools have it all over Procreate, as well as some other Photoshop like functions that no one else does as well. Not sure why you didn't include it in your roundup. God bless, Happy New Year

Great video Lisa, I found this very useful as I just got an ipad and thinking of reviewing stuff on it. As always you pack in very useful information and I am shocked that this video hasn't gained more traction. I'm serious. Shame on the people who gave you a dislike.

Hit the link to buy one, but hesitated because the ad said, “9.7-Inch PaperLike compatible with: iPad 2018, 9.7-Inch iPad Pro and iPad Air 2”. That doesn’t sound like it’s a fit for my 10.5” Pro. Am I missing something?

hi lisa, any chance you'd do a video like this for the surface line? I dont quite like the way photoshop does brush strokes. the latency and brush feel in sketchable is great, imo, but its just too lacking in features for me. any ideas?

Nice roundup, but you missed what is in my opinion probably an even better program than Procreate: Artstudio Pro. It has a brush engine that is more versatile than Procreate (and much better than Affinity) better layering options, adjustment layers, a whole bunch of filters if you need them. It imports Photoshop TPL brush files, which is awesome. I recently started using it and was amazed how good it is. It is as fast as procreate in panning and zooming and drawing, which is really why I love procreate as much. It has a more traditional interface, but it does not get in the way like Clip Studios does, and is more intuitive than Affinitys. I tried just about every drawing app on the iPad, but the two I return to are Procreate and Artstudio Pro. All the other programs miss some crucial features (like sketchbook) have a poor performance and brush engine (affinity) or an interface that does not work on the ipad (Clip Studio). Please give it a try, I would love to have your opinion!

Do you lose that nice retina display using that screen protector? I thought you did like using screen protectors on your iPad?

I can vouch for Procreate. I love the app and everyday I’m still discovering new options and techniques. Yes there is a learning curve but it’s a fun one

What about Clip Studio Paint?? Yes, it's subscription-based (barf) on the iPad, BUT I've heard it's a carbon copy of the desktop version AND SO many pros use it for doodling or jotting down ideas in downtime (since the iPad's a bit too small to do the real stuff on for hours at a time)! I've heard a lot of people recommend it (though I've heard from those same pros that they hope they get better at exporting-importing, as that's an issue to work around)!

Hey Lisa I love to watch your videos especially when you talk art! Is there any other channel or website where you talk or teach art?

I'm so early there's not even any Procreate jokes yet!

Great review and nice quick overview. I'm missing a few, like others mention, but at some point you have to make a choice. Sketchbook can be used for way more than architectural or car stuff. I've made quite some illustrations that don't even closely relate to those. People make all sorts of art in it.

Thanks for the recommendation.
I used an Android tablet some time ago, but switched back to iPad pro in no time, simply for the procreate.
Other apps you recommended are cool as well.
