It's not about the money. It's about the father/son bond.

For me the biggest mindset change came after reading the book 25 Money Secrets From Donald Trump, since reading it the only thing I think about is money

I have been reselling on eBay as a side hustle for 10 years. All the money goes into my ROTH and Traditional IRA. Average about 25K yearly to invest. Sitting on 650K even with the recent Market conditions. Hoping to double my investment by retirement time. You can start with little money all you need is the drive, patients, and commitment. We truly live in the land of opportunities.

It is not about starting a small business to make money from this exercise. The more important takeaway is the kid learns how to look inward, look at his own attributes and see how it can propel himself to an outcome he needs to go to and then he connects the dots to do just that.

Solid lesson, well worth the cost / investment in the child

I wish it wasn’t shoes, but that is a great learning experience and something that can engage younger people. The best financial advice I ever got was to go to higher education. I learned the skills I needed to get a better paying job and networked with a ton of amazing people who helped me along the way.

My brother snd I had a money hustle of some sort since we were 8 and 10. Paper routes, lawn mowing, selling candy at school, we even bought number stencils from the hardware store and cans of spray paint and hit the neighborhood on our BMX bikes and knocked doors askkng if people wanted their address on their curb for $10. Then we would ride bikes to the movie theater cash in pocket. I've been self employed for 23 years, 4 totally different industries. Good lessons all the way starting with those days pushing a mower and working hard, and trying your ideas.

Thanks Scott for always assisting us understand the opportunities at hand. I love (yes love, if you can use that expression) your podcasts. I not only learn, I expand my vocabulary and delivery of the information.

One of the things I'm really grateful for with my ADHD, as much as there's tons of negatives to working life with that, the amount of random stuff I've just tried leaves me with a lot fewer "what if?"s with regards to side hustles or small business related ideas. I've tried everything from wood carving little ornaments to screen printing tshirts, and eventually you find something either A. fun and B. a little more profitable or easy than you expected. And you don't have to do it all at once either. I have 2 little ideas I've been excited to get into for years that I'm not going to start until I leave the big city and go back to the countryside where I grew up, being beekeeping and hydroponics. You've just got to get out of the idea that you're powerless to increase your income outside of your 9-5.

Great to have a motivating factor to learn about market values.

1975, I was thirteen. My best money making job was hauling hay. Farmers were paying fifty cents per bail to have it stacked in their barns. Fifty bales to a pickup truck load, ten loads a day on a bad day fifteen loads if everything went right. I bought my first pickup, and hired a seventeen year old girl to drive. That summer my brother and I ended up with five hundred dollars, the truck and connections that continued to pay off throughout high school.

My life was different from yours.

My son did that in high school and it was excellent learning indeed. It can be a very lucrative side hustle!

Maybe Americans should not be so obsessed with consumption? Just chill and enjoy life.

The way to make money is to find something you love so much that you don't care about making money.

So true. Knowledge and growth from experience. My son went through a similar thing recently. He’s 12. He and a couple friend created a snack service for their school peers. They learned so much about business even though they did not make a profit. Valuable lessons gleaned from the experience 😁🤩💫

My son bought bulk candy and sold it at school. He learned what sold and what didn't and did not give credit. Made a small amount which was useful, but learned more than if I had just given him money

The problem with all of his advice is that he doesn't understand the majority of the world is not rich. He has been out of the poor house for so long he doesn't see the real world anymore. That said I think his intentions are good.
