All the Gear I Bring Backpacking (after years of testing!)

This is everything I bring backpacking after YEARS of testing! It's been a while (nearly two years!) since I updated you all on my core backpacking kit, and so after all my videos over the years testing ultralight gear, budget gear, weird gear, and all the new gear that comes out every year, I thought it was time to share the updated list of everything I take backpacking right now! Some of this stuff is ultralight, some not, some of it pretty budget friendly, and others not, but no matter what it's the gear I stand by to be dependable in the backcountry, and the backpacking gear I call my favorite... for now. 😉

Please do Rainer’s current gear and contrast it with why it may be different than Miranda’s needs.

Can we get a Rainer episode?!? I want to see his gear/equipment list and learn how he hikes while filming.

For anyone concerned about Park budget cuts, please look into an adopt a park program. It shows any volunteering opportunities in your area. And if your area doesn't have one, consider starting one!🌲

Bears don't use flashlights, they all switched over to headlamps years ago

Thank you for including info on carrying your poop out (especially now). I used to be a FS Wilderness Ranger...Everyone, PLEASE STAY vigilant with packing out your garbage and poop. Leaving no trace is more important than ever.!
Could you please include links/more info on where you get your wag bags and pack-out bags? Most of the wag bags/poop carry out/storage searches I find are for bucket toilets (big bags). There's got to be more options for backpacking folks. It would be great if you did a new video on this subject!!
Thanks a bunch Miranda, you rock!!

It wasn't until 5:48 into the video where a pillow moved in the background that I became aware there was a dog on the couch. I genuinely thought the big white floofy thing was a big pillow lol.

I love that you didn't act all modest and pick one item from categories. It's realistic that an avid backpacker would have 2 options for go-to's. That's where im at now, and your line of thinking just reaffirms my personal experience. Great video! 💛

Designed a waterbottle ..."Are y'all tired of hearing me talk about this yet?"
Nope. 👍🏼

Watching this and realizing how much Miranda has influenced me to buy gear. LOL. Good job! (I clicked the link for the pad strap!!)

I'm so excited about your water bottle! It's the perfect combination of everything I wanted and none of the things I didn't like.

As soon as your water bottle comes out, I will be buying four!! Squeezable for filtering and not floppy like a water bag solves a huge problem for me. I think it will fit in a bike water bottle cage too? I also use the flash 55 and it is simply the best.

i only use a bear canister when i have to in accordance with local regulations, but where i go that thats a concern, the BV is actually not acceptable, as the local bears have figured it out. the general recommendation from people in the area is the garcia bear canister, you need a coin or a knife to turn the locks, then you press a button to open it. just something to think about. if Adirondack bears have figured them out, its only a matter of time until your local bears do as well.

Loved seeing all your gear, it is a great balance between ultralight and comfort.

One thing I would swap, is getting a bright coloured BIC lighter over the black, in case you drop it at night or are trying to find it in a dark bag.

Omg the “a knife!!!” kid!!! 🤣 I laughed so hard!!! Possibly my favorite Vine of all time, I haven’t seen that one in so long. Excellent choice.

Miranda, Rainer, team, I haven't watched the video yet but I just wanted to express how excited I was to see a video uploaded on this channel. I'm going through a tough breakup right now and crawling out of a bit of a hole, trying to get back into backpacking because it normally makes me so happy. Watching these videos is helping me get excited about going out this summer and regaining my sense of self. Thank you so much for the joy that you bring with your productions ❤

I also have an absurd amount of gear and I don't even backpack for a living! I tell myself I need to keep it all because it has enabled me to entirely equip a friend (and partially equip other people) and introduce people to the hobby! So... my poor closet, lol. I've been watching your content for awhile -- It is so interesting to watch what gear changes and what gear stays the same!!! What we end up just liking vs appreciating the new stuff. Speaking of core items -- I carry a closed cell foam pad whenever I am snow camping or camping in very cold temps -- My very first snow camping trip, one of my friends could not get her sleeping pad to inflate. I ended up lending her mine but it was too cold to tolerate sleeping directly on the snow. So I ended up using our backpacks as an insulator to at least keep a layer between me and the snow. I was fine after that and slept okay. But never again!!! Worth bringing the extra bulk for safety and comfort reasons!
