On December 18th, Mr. Li, a condo owner in the Luhao Tanglin Bay residential neighborhood in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, reported quality issues with his new condo suite for six months. Seeking assistance, Mr. Li contacted a home inspection team for a pro bono inspection. The inspection team conducted an on-site examination and found that the entire living room floor had varying degrees of loose surfaces with sands falling. Some areas exhibit exposed and rusted steel reinforcement.

I am so glad I was not born in China. And that the house I chose was built in 1900. When they were meticulous in using wood and plaster that has lasted 124 years. It seems that often in China, getting a correctly built housing is far from the norm. Especially in high rise building. Truly frightening.

This is only one of many channels showing ToFu construction in China. This is happening all over China. Shotty workmanship to the point of being criminal. Multi-story buildings with load bearing issues are time bombs waiting to explode. There have been construction problems in the U.S. here and there, but never, never to the extent that you find in China. They have three types of buildings in China. Old Buildings that still stand, and new buildings either waiting to fail, or have already failed.

The irony is that those handmade "shanty town" buildings have probably stood for a century or more, and would have stood for a long time into the future. These relocation projects won't last two decades.
