An Ubuntu Appliance specializes in one task like media, ad blocking or local cloud storage. In this video I take a look at Ubuntu Appliances and install the Plex Media Server on a Raspberry Pi.

If you could take this through the Plex Server setup on the appliance, that would be helpful. I have discovered that the command line using the appliance is not the same as other linux distros. Specifically, I need to see how to get my external USB drives to automount and give permissions to Plex media server. Thanks

I don't get it. If I want a Plex server I'll install it myself. There is no need for a dedicated operating system just to do that. I don't like Canonical's proprietary Ubuntu One and Snap technologies either. If you do, they are available on regular old Ubuntu.

6:28 well that's a big nono in my point of view. I don't have a USB keyboard. That's the same kind of problem I faced when I tried to use Snappy Ubuntu.

In Raspberrian you can just put an SSH file in the root directory or something similar I think. There's a reason to have this. Also why use a stupid account system from Canonical which I only need for that kind of purpose... 😩 Just disappointing.

There doesn't seem to be any support on getting external drives to work on the Plex Ubuntu appliance due to permissions

Can you make a similar video for next cloud on RPI 4

I have installed 4 times now, and I have not been able to ssh into my pi after entering my ubuntu account email. I have not used the RSA key before, so I generated my key using "puttygen" app within windows. I upload the public key to my ubuntu account via copy & paste. Everything seems to work as intended, but after my ubuntu pi-plex loads my ubuntu public key and reboots, when I try to ssh into it, it asks for a password. Since I never set up a password, in any of these steps, I am stuck. What is the password that it asking for? Again, I am not an experienced user of putty, ssh or ssh keys. Any help would be appreciated

In some future video please compare Snapdragon 855 / 865 with an Intel i5/i3 Ryzen 3/5 of some suitable previous generation
With in depth comparison and tests and explanations please make a video on this topic as apple chips are coming

I want to have both Plex and Nextcloud on my Pi. Is that possible with the Appliance (I saw there is an app store)?
What is the benefit of an appliance over an installation on Raspbian?
Can I still use terminal on an Appliance?

I can see how this would make life a lot easier for non-Linux folks. But, an appliance that blindly pulls SSH keys from an external source sounds like a botnet waiting to happen.

Will the appliance then get automatic OS and Plex updates?

I setup this appliance, and quickly discovered USB mounting is a flipping nightmare. Complete waste of time.
