I am not making my videos to make CIG look bad, I want the games to be a huge success and fantastic games one day.
I am looking very forward to check how many of the features "most will be in the game in the next 12 months" make it :)

There are still some pop-ins, but nothing compared to 3.21 live.
Maybe CIG has done something special and drastically reduced pop-ins?
I am looking forward to the next 12 months and check :)

GREAT video @Camural, the first I've seen that's a realistic assessment of CItizenCon. So many content creators out there are drinking the RSI Kool-Aid from a fire hose. I went in expecting soft promises, hype and ship sales, and that's exactly what we got. More graphics improvements, more ships, very little content. I'm an enterprise systems architect with many years of global experience and in my opinion the server meshing demo was 100% hype. Very small scale, on local hardware, with 3 static zones, etc. That's a HUGE difference from a global MMO with millions of entity nodes and thousands of players running on dynamic, distributed servers over the internet. The demo wasn't even a proof of concept, just a small-scale demo of a "very early" version of some tech. They said so themselves, "This is very early tech, but...", "new technology we're developing...", "The big next step in our VISION is integrating the replication service...", "This is the very first version of a working server mesh", etc. No mention of the known blockers, no mention of Quanta or the dynamic economy, etc. Why are the pretty demos always different from the actual game? (I loved the T-posing attendees standing on their chairs when CR came out) I'm a Wing-Commander level backer and only want to see the game succeed, but CR and RSI are still not being open and honest about the progress or the many, many known issues. Time will tell...

Great summary, Camural! One thing that genuinely frustrated me was they had that AI segment and didn't mention AI performance on real servers or any plans to improve it. They can have the most advanced AI ever created, but if it doesn't work on an active server it's all for nothing.

Everything looks great and I hope it's real, but everything looked pretty good back in 2016, too. Once burned, twice shy.

The other thing that's really bothered me, just more hype, is the little squares showing the "progress' on the ship backlog. If the squares were sized by their level of effort, with very large squares for the capital ships, etc., it would have told a very different story. They could also have shown how much rework is estimated to bring the released and soon-to-be released ships up to gold standard with full functionality, but as @Camural said they haven't even defined gold standard yet. Not to mention that we really need a working MMO to support the number of players a capital fleet would involve.

My two cents. You are absolutely right about the fire VFX. They could be better, look better, but at which cost ? They are not physically correct, even with smoke. But should they be ? It's a matter of staging. Is the narrative ok with such a state of fire ? Is it meaningfull enough without breaking the credibility/immersion ? I am much more critical about the lack of / low quality of subsurface scaterring in general.

Polishing for Chris the perfectionist is going to be over 2 years unless someone in the chain of command puts him in his place.

RE: Level of Detail: There ARE pop-ins in this video from CitizenCon. Especially noticeable in the mountains on Microtech. CIG just clearly increased the render distance in their config or the behavior.

I have my doubts too. People have very short memories, it seems, and have forgotten that we have been here before many times.

What is driving me crazy about this citcon, particularly in forums, is the ridiculous amount of praise people are throwing at very.... very basic shit. Listen to the cheers from the crowed when they announce the ability to use one button to interact with items (pick up, carry, use etc). Just like every other 3D game that has come out in the past 30 years!!! It's unbelievable!!!

Added to this, the ability to use the ammunition you have in your inventory! Jesus christ. I am of course pleased they are rolling back many of the stupid decisions they have made, but how low are we setting the bar for these guys.

28:48 of CIG Graphics and Tech Demo (please go look at it: "CitizenCon 2953: Shaping the ‘Verse - The Future of StarEngine") they show case that they are actively doing R&D to reduce drastically popins. FYI. Might not be in 3.22 but that Demo could be a byproduct of the ongoing R&D.

I love how down to earth you are about this!! Yes, I don't think we will get anything too soon, but one can hope. It's not real until it's in PTU, that's been my base line. But thank you also for the work you do to bring out these videos. I really enjoy them, keep up the good work!

I still don't see how Pyro or any other star system released can improve the game from what it is now without Quanta and Server meshing properly implemented. Where is Quanta, Chris?? Where's the background npc economy simulation??
The only thing I was happy about this year's CitizenCon is that SQ42 is feature-complete. At least they won't be adding more BS tech, gameplay mechanics, and other stuff to keep it in a perpetual development cycle. It might still be at least 1 year from going gold, but the wait would be worth it, seeing the cutscenes, music, and live gameplay videos as proof.

(It does take some effort to equalise out the hype ;))

@1:24 when he says that a lot of this stuff will be in within the coming 12 months, I guess this could be a 'seventh time is the charm' situation.

Someone should send this to Assmangold and the other "content creators" jumping in on star citizen for clicks.

Thanks for this video, it adds much needed perspective.

Good Video. Seems the promotional Range of SC just expanded with the Engine Trailer. Creators like Asmongold or Gronkh talking about SC again. Hope Chris keeps his word. If so, 2024 might be a great year for SC. But ill stay sceptical till i have it in my Hands. Thanks for your work

Great video, and yes if this was year 4 this con would have the best con ever... but in year 11 a lot of it was just "cool but let me see it practice". However the SQ42 stuff will have me hyped(when it goes gold) because after 11+ years I don't enjoy MMOs that much anymore. Scheduling my play time around others doesn't cut it, so being able to enjoy SQ42 when I want will be satisfying.

I dont expect better performance yet, but more content yes.
I guess we'll see how much they can bring on 3.22, then we can gauge if having more people actually working on the PU now made a difference in a short time.
