The Greatest Title Sequence in TV History

BoJack Horseman has the greatest title sequence of all time, and you’re gonna have a really hard time convincing me otherwise. It’s one of those intros that I absolutely refuse to skip any time I’m watching the show. But this incredible sequence isn’t just an amazing work of art in itself, it’s also jam packed with show-accurate details that change alongside the events of the series. Some of these details are small, some are big, but all of them correspond to something in the actual narrative of the series. Adult animation has a long history of episodic changes in their title sequences, the most obvious example being The Simpsons’ couch gags, but BoJack’s take on this practice is as unique as the series itself, and often the details actually offer incredible insight into the story and themes. So let’s dive into this legendary title sequence and breakdown every tiny detail it has to offer. Spoilers ahead for the entire BoJack Horseman series! And yes, I have talked about these details before, but I missed some AND I know I can do it BETTER now, SO THERE.

I think it would have been brilliant if in the intro to "The View from Halfway Down" if when when BoJack is in the pool we look up to see that no one is looking back at him.

I think it's telling how Seasons 1-5 had Bojack going through the introduction with a mostly blank expression, but Season 6 has him display a wider range of emotions like guilt, fear, and resentment to reflect the new cognizance he has about the effects of his actions.

I love how the thing Sarah Lynn overdoses on is also called Bojack, so she both literally and metaphorically overdosed on.. Bojack.

I’d also mention that in the title sequence the two people looking down at Bojack when he’s drowning are Mr Peanutbutter, who literally saves him from drowning in his pool in s3 ep10, and Diane, who Bojack wanted to save him from drowning in his pool in s6 ep15. I swear everyone involved in this show are geniuses.

When your show is so incredibly smart that just the intro gives you this much to talk about.

And also for the seasons 1-5 at the end of the openings, Bojack has red-ish eyes bc of his substance abuse but they are not anymore in season 6 since he became sober

The trippy sequence in season 4 also mimics a kaleidoscope, like the one Diane gave Bojack to keep him distracted while she dealt with her family back in season 1. That episode ended with Bojack essentially telling Diane that she could leave her terrible family behind and live her new life. In this season, the family Bojack had catches up with him.

speaking of continuity in the show i always really enjoyed the fact that once bojack sold away his shares of the show or whatever that back in the 90s no longer played in the end credits

Something I never realised until JUST NOW is that the final notes from the saxophone replicate a horse's whinny. Just... This _show, _ man!

hearing the writers talk in interviews and their sense of humor, i feel like one reason the writers did this was literally as an ironic joke, because since it’s a Netflix show they knew people would skip it and it would be even funnier to make it so detailed.

kind of like how they have a meta joke in the show about how you satiate a writer with an end credit page that people will skip anyways, and how they have a joke about Netflix haha

You can also see Bojack making shifty eyes to those around him when he's on the set of Philbert. Further foreshadowing his paranoia and further slip into the madness he experienced. It gets illustrated more later in the season when you see him wearing the detective uniform in his morning routine.

You know someone is GOAT when they make a video review on a title sequence and theme song

I remember being so sad when Wanda stopped showing up in the title sequence. And then even more when the same happend with Sarah Lynn and Hollyhock. This show's attention to detail is simply amazing.

I wish they made a custom one with Mr. Peanut Butter for S4 Ep1 that Bojack was missing for but was mainly about PB running for Governor.

9:39 you said that the people shown are people bojack has hurt in his life, except for his parents. Is it not more plausible that it is showing people Bojack believes he has let down in his life instead? It certainly explains why his parents are there, as he definitely believes he let them down

Did you know that and upside-down horseshoe is bad luck? It means all the luck is spilling out of the horseshoe.

Right there in the title sequence we can see that Bojack is waking up to bad luck.

okay but 'kyle and the kids' is infuriatingly catchy. 'he loves his wife and there's nothing you can do!'

I love how whenever one of Bojack's memories end with him drinking alcohol, the burning effect starts at his throat, just like how drinking alcohol would burn ones throat.
